As has been stated, this school has a problem with acceptance and diversity. The majority of the students are students of family members that have been going to the school for years and years and years, and the teachers/staff tend to be friends or related to these individuals. If you are an outsider coming in, get into sports asap, or do not expect to be accepted. If you are not white, expect to be treated differently. There are a handful of genuine teachers who go above and beyond, but just not enough to change the culture.

My son was attending the preschool program in the elementary building. He was threatened multiple times on the bus by older kids and even came home with his backpack cut. When I brought it to the principal, his response was he had hundred of kids to worry about. When I brought it to the school board president, I was told that maybe riding the bus wasnt the best option and that when his kids were in school he did not allow his children to ride the bus. The only option I had for the protection of my son, was to completely take him out of the program. We have since moved out of the school district. I will NEVER allow my son to attend Gobles, or any school within that district. Completely disgusting and a disgrace to the community.

I hate this school system, all this kids are extremely rude and the only way to be fully accepted by everyone is athletics. Students have no room to excel in anything but that.

I traveled with my family to various parts of the United States and around the world. This provided me the opportunity to attend numerous schools. Frankly, Gobels High School was, academically, at least two years behind the other schools I had attended. It had little to offer and specialized programs that allow students to pursue their interest and talents in ways that they can develop themselves for future specialized jobs. The curriculum was extremely basic and, in particular, the math program was, overall, about four grade level behind the math programs at other high schools I had attended. Overall, I had the impression that Gobels High School was training its students for jobs in menial positions, such as working in a paper mill or on automotive plant assembly line. The school needs to improved academically and allowing students to pursue courses that would help them develop technical, math and scientific skills, thereby providing them the opportunity to compete and to obtain highly technical jobs or to pursue university degrees. Without such improvements in the education for our children, they will not be prepared for the jobs of the future.

We moved our kids into this school when my oldest was 8. Combined my kids had 9 years of education at Gobles. One of those years was less than stellar academically for one child and because we were involved (as most parents are) it was easy to talk to the principal about it. The following year that child's test scores skyrocketed. The principle simply won't tolerate mediocrity. I really owe the teachers at this school a large debt of gratitude for 9 amazing years of pouring love and learning into my kids. It is a wonderfully diverse environment racially and in how they work with special needs kids. Many schools preach character but few expect it and coach for it. This school is imperfect; but not by too much.
