I would agree with everything others have responded with and shared. The climate of the school has progressively worsened over the past 4 years or so. I think most parents remain because the school looks 'pretty'. There are more students than the school is equipped or competent to handle. The attitudes and behavior of staff and leadership is horrendous and most times inappropriate.

Two stars based on what I have seen in the last two years. This is as an educator and parent. When tutoring looks like regular class time when the students are being let out for the day, that is a red flag. This great schools report is more than accurate for this school. Too many children have issues with reading or writing from what it seems. More teachers and resources need to be on it's way. Class sizes should be at no more than 10-12. I know that is a dream for teachers, but 18-24+ students will keep this school at it failing rate. Again, degrees/certifications don't necessarily mean you can educate. A student can learn from anyone who really aspire to teach them what they need to know and in my opinion this school passion is at about a C- when doing that. And to the teachers I observed at this school that likes to blame parents for the kids not learning, remember; you are the teacher regardless to whatever level that parent is on. They entrusted you to be the educator. I'm giving them until the end of the school year and then I will evaluate and possibly move my children on to a better educational institution.

My child move from Kindergarten to the 5th grade and I can tell you that this is by far the worse experience I have had other than 4th grade, I can say 5th is the horrible. The school has a poor reputation, lack of sports, science, history, math and reading programs. If you care about your child's education, stay clear of this school. The teachers are not equip to teach students. Case in point, they just hired the YMCA worker to be the 5th grade teacher. This person is unprofessional and speaks as if he is a third grader himself. He uses improper English and argues with children. He is not qualified however he is now my child's teacher. This should be reported and I do believe this is my next step. I'm so disappointed in this school. - Stay clear! Send your child to Mark Murray not Ellen Thompson.

One star. The science curriculum at this school is poor. I love most of the teachers at University Prep Academy Ellen Thompson Campus except for two unprofessional 5th grade teachers. During a meeting with my son's teacher in the principal's office, I pointed out to the principal that my son's teacher was not supervising her students during a camp field trip. The teacher got angry, yelled at me and walked out of the meeting. The principal had to go and get her. That was no doubt a violation. For a better teacher structure and professionalism at UPA, send your children to the Mark Murray campus.

If you care about the education of your child/children, DO NOT SEND THEM TO THIS SCHOOL. The level of unprofessionalism and failure to accommodate reasonable requests at the administration and office staff level is the worst I have ever experienced. I have been an educator over 13 years and the lack of cooperation at the administration level is by far the most unaccommodating I have ever witnessed. I am a very vocal and outspoken advocate of my child's educational needs. I made a reasonable request to the principal regarding by daughter's placement in August and she refused to accommodate my request of changing her class. My 2nd grader has had an inconsistent educational setting all year. Her original teacher went on maternity leave and decided not to return, which I advised the principal could happen. Before my daughter enrolled at UPREP Ellen Thompson Campus I let the office staff (Ms. Foster) know that her previous school lacked consistency and that she had 3 different teachers during the prior school year. They assured me that things would be different. HOWEVER, THEY WERE NOT!!! My daughter has had 3 different teachers this school year alone and 2 of them have been substitutes.
