I am a senior executive from one of DCR's work-study partners; an accounting firm. We have a team of DCR students that work in our office. They are smart, ambitious, respectable young people. Our one student that is a senior will be attending University of Michigan Ann Arbor in the fall, to study science and business. I have already told my recruiting department to stay in touch with this young man; we will want to recruit him to join our firm when he graduates. If you are a prospective student or the parent of a prospective student, you can be sure that DCR's work-study partners, like me, are impressed with DCR's students and want them to come work in our businesses when they graduate from college.

It all looks great, like great curb appeal. But in reality, the graduation rate is lower than the public schools- a student in the public school system has a better chance at graduating. Yes, every senior is accepted into college, but a large portion of them are only accepted in community colleges, where they get in because they are residents. Work study is the money maker, so even if the roads are covered in ice, the vans are sent out to take the students to work. Teachers come and go, every year half of them quit. Cristo Rey is a great concept, but in Detroit, it needs a whole lot of work before it will function.

Detroit Cristo Rey is defiantly one of greatest school in Detroit. Its challenging and a even sometimes exhausting but its all worth it. I am pushed every day to be the best student and person I can be. I feel like all the teachers want the best for me and for all the students. The school is for students who want to go to college and be successful. The expectation that the teachers and administration hold the students is at college level. Also the networking and experience that the students get from the work program is priceless. The amount things is learned from the doctors and nurses I work with at the hospital is incredible and has pushed me to set my goals higher then ever. More then anything I have learned that I love working with patients and helping people and I know that's what I want to do for the rest of my life, so I'm willing to work hard to become a doctor to do all that and more. Without Cristo Rey I might of taken me long to realize this and I'm thankful.

I hated Detroit Cristo Rey when I first started. In all aspects I thought the schools was over rated and was surpassed by other schools. I attended that school for four years and witnessed what the school was really about. Yes the school only had two employees in maintenance, but the school is small and only needs two. The lunch wasn't great, by any means, but we don't go to school for the food, we go for the education, and that is exactly what we got. As an alumni, I have seen the strong survive and the weak give up, so I understand why one coming in for the first time might not enjoy the experience but I stress to not give up. Detroit Cristo Rey is honestly the best option for High school student in southwest and real in all areas of Detroit. The environment is safe, there is a No Tolerance for bullying and fighting, teachers actually care, and more importantly, it's a family. It provides a review & college based education because they take all students which come from public schools which are most likely behind so they bring them up to speed. I learned so much there and because of the work study program I have a great resume. They also helped me get 5 Universities. Thank You DCR

I am a new student at DCRHS. I really dislike this school because of the environment, education, and false promises. Sure every students works but it's not really a learning experience. Many students including myself do nothing at work. It's a waste of time and of an education. Then there is the environment, the school is very old and is dirty we only have a cleaning staff of two. There are mice and roaches in the school! Many of the bathroom do not lock and there is usually no soap for us to wash our hands. The lunch is horrid and can be cold and uncooked when we see it. The teachers and staff do care but we're not getting a college prep education like promised. Since the school takes anyone, the whole school year is basically all review from elementary and middle school. And the finals are made from the Cristo Rey network, which means group of people who aren't our teachers make us a test. Most of the finals material we haven't even learned. A week before finals we are still learning new stuff and no reviewing I feel if I stay there any longer I will not be prepared for college. I recommend you do not bring your child unless you like false promises & a sad education
