Overall i think Ol Smith is a pretty good school. There have been several problems in the past years but, currently i think the new staff, teachers, and principal have done a much better job handling situations. the bathrooms are much cleaner than they were last year. The teachers try their best to teach us and make sure we understand how too do our work. a lot of the times the teachers have to stop and discipline the class because of the talking/giggling. but, eventually the class quiets down. Ol smith is not as bad as everyone makes it sound. We have a wonderful autism program and the students work and engage with each other during class. we also have several other programs that help the students at our school like access, and several other programs that help student in need. The school is much more controlled with our new principal Zeina Jebril and our council members. They have improved this school for the better and handle situations immediately .

Bullying is out of control the children here are hateful and mean and have no respect for anyone

I went to O.L. Smith for middle school and this is part of the reason my dad moved as well. I am now 20 and attended Smith from 2007-2010, and I still keep in touch with a favorite teacher who says that since I have left, it has gotten steadily worse. But this problem is not specific to Smith. Dearborn schools as a whole have been in decline, and I believe part of the reason for this is a lack of communication between the diverse communities of Dearborn. I have seen racially motivated fights break out in the hallways before and not long ago two teachers were injured in a brawl. Bullying was a major problem for many kids at Smith. Do yourself a favor and explore all other options if you are able to. Your children will thank you later.

My son and daughter both went here and hated it. The school has a major bullying problem, and their punishment for misbehaving is not rewarding them ( which I see as in effective). when my child was in 6th grade they were in a "normal" science class, that didn't have a classroom! That class also never had a permanent teacher, and the class was like this all year. The school probably has two REAL lock-downs a month because of an unsafe location. My daughter was 12 and depressed because of school and my son was being offered drugs by random kids frequently. Not to mention the fights and vandalism here, the fights are probably every other day and very violent, the vandalism coats every stall in every bathroom along with wet, wadded up tissue. This school is the reason why my family moved.
