We have been at St. Hugo for many years with 3 children. We have seen Sister Margaret retire and many positive and progressive changes come into play with Principal Vincler. Sister Margaret ran a great school with a very traditional approach. Principal Vincler has an incredibly open ear to the parents. The children in all grades are kind and supportive of each other. I will often see older grades opening doors and taking time to do small kind gestures for younger children. They started a much needed pre-k program this year and we love it. The academics are stellar, especially the reading. The kids are broken into 4 groups and spend almost 90 mins a day in each group until grade 4. It is the launching pad for their academics. One of our children was struggling with reading and now we can't get the book out of his hands! The parent involvement is everywhere and I have yet to meet a parent who is not nice. There is always something to get involved in. The class sizes are 16-20 which is a perfect size. The homework is still too much and there seems to be a lot of busy work , but we manage to get it done. We have heard it gets worse in middle school. Heading there soon... The school art program could be stronger and so could the math. Overall the academics are top notch. The teachers are available for meetings and communicate well. We have yet to run into a "bad apple". The religious education is wonderful and mass weekly has instilled a moral compass you just can't put a price on. We feel more than blessed to be a part of community that places a value on catholic education with such strong parental and church involvement. It is great to see the same families at school, lunch, school sports and church all there happy to see each other and doing it all for their kids. Very little drama.

The administration and teachers have done an outstanding job this year to foster an ideal learning environment for my children. I am appreciative for their actions to best help my children. The priest does a great job with the student led Masses during the week. The community is very kind and there have been many fun events for our family to enjoy. We are very happy with our experience at St. Hugo of the Hills!

Our family is very pleased with St. Hugo Elementary school. It has a very strong academic record. A Blue Ribbon School since 2009. As parents of young children, we are thrilled that so many older kids graduate from Hugo and lead their high school classes academically. We are very satisfied with the entire school including curriculum, staff, sports, arts, and instilling Christian values within our children. The school focuses on the whole child. Being smart is great but being smart and learning how to to be a good citizen are wonderful life skills that the Hugo kids exemplify. On many occasions the children of St. Hugo have been commended on their generous hearts and polite personalities. We are firm believers in the St. Hugo educational system from A -Z.

St. Hugo of the Hills fosters a social culture that is very competitive and seems to go against what a Catholic School should encompass. Our experience is that many children are quick to single out others for ridicule such as when providing an incorrect answer. Teachers and administration seem to accept this behavior as normal and beneficial. Rigorous academics are a badge of honor here however the discipline for behavior is not commensurate.Homework level is fair, however proper study preparation, for continuous quizzes and tests, is non-ceasing. Lack of communication between teachers leads to the common occurrence of 3 to 4 tests on a given day as well as projects also being due. In some classes, there is very little teaching and the students are really learning the material independently. In some classes a difficult concept is not addressed by additional instruction but by simply moving on to the next student for an answer.Class turnover in the upper grades may be a sign of issues. In recent years, as many as 15% to 20% of a class may not return.St. Hugo of the Hills does many things well. For our family the negatives outweighed the positives. St. Hugo of the Hills does prepare students for high school but the methods and philosophy are not for everyone. There is a way for a school to have high expectations and a challenging academic program without being unrealistic.

Our children have attended St. Hugo School from K through 8. It has been and continues to be a wonderful education for our children. The community of families is so strong, faithful, supportive and positive. We feel blessed to be a part of it. The teachers at our school are committed and experienced. The administration is remarkable. The teachers and admin work very closely on every aspect of the school. Lesson plans are reviewed weekly by administration and the teachers have a great relationship with fellow teachers and admin. We felt very strongly about sending our kids to our parish school. Attending Mass weekly is just one small part of this. A parish school is such a big part of building a strong Catholic foundation in our children and families. St. Hugo school is a great place. I strongly encourage anyone who might be interested to come check us out!
