We are a current family at Lawton but are considering moving after this year. This is our second year at Lawton and Lawton is our first school in A2 that we have attended. The biggest issue you will find with Lawton is with the Principal and their ineffective leadership. They do not follow policies when dealing with conflicts and will use technically emotionally abusive tactics such as "minimizing, silent treatment, deflection, dismissal, etc." Some issues that we have had that never were properly resolved after being brought to the Principals attention were picking our child up with a black eye that wasn't reported. Picking our child up with soiled pants that had happened hours prior that was never reported. Principals leaving our child alone with another parent that we did not know who was not a volunteer or an employee at the school and was not background checked or fingerprinted for a period of time. TA's escalating a situation with a young child (5 year old) who scratched their arm by putting the child in CPI restraints that lasted approximately 20 minutes in total all while the classmates watched. All while the Principal is contacting myself throughout this day telling me what a great day my child was having. Only to find out at pick up that these restraints had happened and over such a minor offense. And that they had happened first thing in the morning. This isn't even all of it. This is the Leadership you will receive at Lawton.

Lawton by far is the best elementary school in Ann Arbor. This will be our 3rd year at Lawton and I have been extremely impressed with the leadership of the school and the way they teach the students to all be leaders by example. There is such a sense of community among the teachers, parents and students. I wouldn't want my child anywhere else!

We moved from another state to A2. Lawton is great and my child is very blessed to have a caring and loving teacher. We (Parents and Teacher) really work together to help our child shine even brighter! Love this school.

It's hard to imagine a better public school in the state of Michigan. More than half the teachers are excellent (with the rest merely good), the principal is full of energy and on top of things, and the parental involvement is outstanding. The only things holding it back are AAPS bureaucracy and our state's embarrassingly low amount of funding for public schools.

All three of our children have attended Lawton. It is a wonderful amazing school. Excellent teachers, strong academics, a great leadership program amazing diversity and active parental involvement! We moved to this area just to ensure our kids could attend Lawton!
