I have 2 kids enrolled at Lakewood (K and 3rd). I've been thrilled with all of their teachers. I volunteer in a 5th grade classroom once a week and impressed with what I see from the educators and staff. I have also been very happy with the level of commitment and participation from other parents which makes it feel like a real community, not just a school. The level of communication from the school is consistent and appropriate.

30 kids in a first grade classroom with only one teacher! Enough said. Many of us feel for the kids and parents who are currently experiencing this overcrowded situation. No matter how good the teacher, that many kids in a classroom with one adult does not provide optimal learning. Many fear this will continue to be the trend and many are looking for different options. Kids deserve better. Teachers care but it's not possible to "focus" on all of the kids and their needs. What's even more disturbing is that they say they have openings for in district transfers for next year's 2nd grade class.

We regret using this school for our "choice". It is overcrowded, the class sizes are way too large to benefit any child. Most of the teachers we have had really do care about the kids but we didn't get any support from the principal with concerns. The school is outdated and not the cleanest environment and the previous comment was true when they said you will not be notified if your child gets hurt at school. The quality of education has been very disappointing. We should have returned to our neighborhood school much sooner but Lakewood was supposed to be "Better". Not a good experience.

This is an amazing elementary school! It's a hidden gem and we are grateful to be a part of it. The principal and teachers are 100% dedicated to their students and go beyond that by incorporating a real sense of family. My children are not only learning academics, they are learning how to be a valued and active member of a learning community! Life skills and strong academics will go a long way. We won't move until our children are in middle school because we refuse to leave the Lakewood district!

We have been very pleased with Lakewood school. I find it to be a secret little gem within the big AAPS system. Tucked behind the darling Lakewood neighborhood, it is a classic midcentury elementary school building with 2 large playgrounds and a nature area with trails. The teachers have been kind, focused and dedicated. The principal is incredibly enthusiastic! We laugh that "he is everywhere!" He is in the classrooms, the parking lot, the hallways. He takes his job seriously and his staff seems to respect him. I appreciate the multi-cultural feel of the school and think that differences are celebrated. While I looked at charter, private and public options in Ann Arbor, our family is happy with our choice and feel our daughters are getting a good, fun, engaging education at Lakewood.
