Ada Vista Elementary School Ratings & Reviews

My son attended Ada Vista from preschool all the way to third grade. Overall, it is a safe, good school. However, recently, our family relocated to Texas and now my son is enrolled in a dual-language program here. I understand Texas has different requirements, but I've noticed that my son has some challenges with the language, that is, he is far below that of native speakers. Fortunately, now he is surrounded by native Spanish speakers daily which means his language ability will grow tremendously over the next 6 months. Overall, how great is a Spanish-Immersion school when children are limited in their ability to communicate in that language? Not sure there is much Ada Vista can do. . . nearly all the kids in the school are non-native Spanish speakers (and speak English together all the time when not in class) as are many of the teachers. Overall, Ada Vista is a good school. . . but they definitely have their limitations. . .

Ada Vista Elementary is one of the best schools in the district. My older two children attended a different school but we counted ourselves lucky to get the younger two into this wonderful school. The Spanish Immersion Staff and Teachers are wonderful. Both my daughters have loved the school and done well there. They have plenty of support to help students who take longer to jump on board the Spanish reading and writing. Parents are so much more involved then I experienced with my older children. Even though the state testing has to be given in English the students continue to be at the head of the class with their test scores. The environment is very inclusive and open I have found everyone easy to work with and willing to listen to new ideas and suggestions.

Our family has had a wonderful education experience at Ada Vista. The teachers are energetic, loving, and regularly go beyond the call of duty. I am astounded at how quickly my kids are excelling in bilingualism, as well as in English and math. The kids are instructed from a global, rather than local, perspective and learn quickly to appreciate cultural differences. The principal is responsive and accessible. We have also come to appreciate the close sense of community created by families within the school. Parents send their children to Ada Vista by choice, and it shows in their level of involvement.

As long as you make large donations your child will be permitted to bully other children without recourse. Even with numerous reports to staff, bullying continues to be tolerated by the principle, counselor, teachers and play ground supervisors. This is no longer the school to get into. It has grown wildly out of control. For a culturally diverse school it fails in every aspect to realize that we are culturslly diverse and not all RICH. So if you let your child have whatever they want and don't believe in respecting others because they don't have the latest apple gadget. ADA. Vista is the school for you. Do not expect the great rating to stay as more and more parents are negatively talking about the leadership and quality and care of children when they are so vulnerable at this age.

I do not think this school is good at all. This school has very young inexperienced teachers pulled from a tiny pool of possible candidates, lacks normal safety procedures, and only meets standards by virtue of parent interventions. Everyone cheerleads the program without examining what is really going on. There are MANY problems here that need to be addressed. But the leadership does not self-reflect, rather boasts a level of excellence that is NOT there. The quality of education is low. Parent effort (teaching their children at home since they aren't allowed in the classroom if they don't speak spanish) is what makes the program work on paper.
