I have 3 children at Fort Hill. My son played football and my daughters are in the band. They are all 3 involved in other activities as well; tennis, drama, choir, wrestling, mock trial, science bowl, environmental bowl, etc.. You get out what you pit in. But over half the football team has a 3.8 or higher GPA. The coach pushes players to make academics a priority. Football players also have a special needs football buddy. And a few years ago one of the special needs students was the homecoming queen. Chosen by her classmates. These kids are learning more then x and o's and so much more then what can be taught in a book. My son was able to take 2 years of ap physics and ap em and ap bio. Plus ap calc. My daughter has 4 ap classes her junior year and next year will be duel enrollment

Fort Hill is either about sports or the band and if you aren't in either than you are considered a nobody in the school. Which was a reason why I left after 10th grade and went to a different school. The school itself has the worst reputation in the county and if you say you go there, you are looked down upon by people in the county. I'm so glad I left that school behind to find some where else to continue my education.

This school has two things that receive all of the attention. Football and band. If the rest of the school received as much attention, this school would be a 10 on a 5 scale. There is a lot of local politics and it is a who-you-know and who-are-you school and town. Outsiders aren't welcomed by the locals. But, at the same time, they are always complaining about the town losing population and the school getting smaller. They're their own worst enemies. I have to say that the school itself is much better than the town or the town people. The school would probably rate a 3 in any other town. If you have to move to this area, you might be better off moving to the WV side of the river.
