The Gunston School Ratings & Reviews

Meh. Some good, some bad. Most teachers are amazing. They really do try. It's a beautiful campus. Great crew team! But the school has NO diversity ... the only reason they have any diversity is because they bring in so many Chinese students so their Asian percentage is super high. If you took them out, it would look like all the other (like 1% of the population). A bunch of black kids left or were bullied and left. The administration (ok, the Headmaster) creates a hostile environment. I'm glad I"m out of there.

I somewhat agree with the two star rating. Putting all personal opinions aside, Gunston is a decent school. It has challenging classes, most of its teachers are competent, and has strong athletics. Financial aid is only given to students who qualify. While I do not know the exact qualifications, I know that you must be getting good grades. There are a few upsides, but there are multiple downsides. Only some of the teachers are what you would expect from a "premier private school", yet the others are horrific. Those teachers solely care about the money, and could care less about the children. When I went there, 3 of my 6 teachers would talk on the phone with the administration about "refusing to work if the pay isn't stable" during class. Happening much, this is unprofessional. The administration is, for the most part, terrible. Their handling of disciplinary actions is completely passive, almost refusing to take any major action for most issues. Going back on the financial aid, the aid itself comes in different values. Some might be 50% tuition, some may be 3%. The vast majority are below the 14% range. The 700k is almost entirely from donations, this I know for a fact.

Unfortunately for the student who posted her comment just before mine, she is entirely wrong. Gunston gives out 700,000$ in financial aid a year! And 45% of student receive that financial aid. Gunston is a terrific school and the teachers as well as the students are incredible!! Gunston is such an amazing place and I am so happy to go there!!! 5 stars for Gunston!

Seeing the other reviews, it is unfortunate that times have changed. The only positive thing that I see about Gunston is its teachers; they are some of the most caring individuals that I know. That is the ONLY positive thing about the school. The food is horrific (worse than Sysco garbage), and the community is not nearly as caring as stated below. Way back when, when I went there as a freshman, I got into a little argument with another student (let's just say, I was completely the victim here). The student continued to harass me throughout the entire year, both online and off, and the only thing that Gunston did about it was threaten to suspend him. I had and have been having severe anxiety issues and other health problems due to this. Also, Gunston "bended the truth" to my parents about some of the features of going there; long story short, they pulled me out after freshman year. For a 24k dollar school (which financial aid is EXTREMELY rare), you would expect the community to care about you. As for the school itself, some teachers are excellent while others are horrible. Overall, I rated this place two stars because the only positive thing I can say is about some of its staff.
