As a graduate and now a faculty member, I love this school because it encourages all to be tolerant, compassionate, hardworking, lifelong learners.

Magnet High is the flagship high school in Caddo Parish, and offers the best opportunity for students to prepared for and be successful in college anywhere. The students, teachers, and staff are focused on maintaining a safe and supportive environment for everyone. The courses offer rigor and variety, and my son does work hard to maintain good grades, It's more than worth the time and effort, and he loves it there.

My child is a sophomore at this school. Magnet has many strengths, including the high percentage of teachers with Master's degree or higher, the performing arts programs, variety of AP/dual enrollment courses, and availability of extra help from many teachers. However, I have felt more than once like a victim of false advertising. Based on what was said when we visited the school, I expected that the science curriculum would include labs; however, my child's science lessons thus far have consisted mostly of reading a textbook and answering some questions about it. Easy "A," but boring. Math has been pretty much self-taught, maybe this year will be better. Most teachers are responsive to questions/concerns, but with some, it's easier just to try to figure it out on our own. Counselor sometimes responds to calls/emails, sometimes not. Overall, I found it easier to stay informed and communicate with teachers/staff at Byrd, where my older son attended. PTSA meetings at Magnet are only for those who don't work - held in the middle of the day. On the plus side, my child has learned to budget time, makes pretty good grades and likes the social environment.
