We moved from Florida in an A-rated district school so I was nervous about the transition. My daughter started in 2nd grade w/ Mrs. Rich who was also from FL. She understood their education system and was able to help meet the needs and make the transition seamless. She soon became the BEST thing that happened to my daughter, encouraging her to be her best and work hard, everyday. Shes now applying to a magnet program performing arts middle school and has been accepted because of the time invested by her teachers (on and off the clock) to help her academically. Mrs. Corwin offers math tutoring 30 minutes before school 2x's a week for any 5th grader which improved her math grades. The principle Mr Wright is very active and always seen interacting with parents, students and teachers, attending functions like PTA events/ dances, JCPS school showcase, and volleyball games cheering in the stands. They offer a G.I.R.L.S club that is after school and encourages young girls to be active in their communities and fosters empowerment at a young age. They have had 2 talent shows in the time we have been there and was entertaining for elementary school children and well-organized by Ms. Rutledge, the art teacher. There are only a few things I would recommend to improve: 1.Lunch time-Visiting as a parent, the tables are sitting next to the "line up" line so kids are literally so close they are touching you for 5-7 minutes until the teacher comes to get them, then the next class lines up. Very awkward and hard to even talk to your child. 2. Car Drop-off line- Is uncontrolled and dangerous. Multiple cars let out kids at a time, cars pull off after they drop their kids off and other kids getting out of cars are at risk of being hit. I recommend having a patrol team of about four 5th graders and 1 teacher. Each car pulls up to the next traffic cone accompanied by a traffic patroller- the 5th grader opens the door after its stopped and the next group of cars will follow. This is giving students some type of ownership and pride with a "job" and improving the safety with increased oversight of reckless drivers and speeds up the process. 3.There's no playground, not even a bench. P.E has been cut out of school, some sort of physical entertainment should be offered rather than kids grouping up around a graffiti covered basketball goal. :::Overall, I highly recommend Hartstern!:::

This is our family's 12th year with this school- all 4 of my children have attended here & I wouldn't want them to be at any other elementary school. During this time, we've had a child w/ 1 bullying issue, a few academic issues, 2 kids w/medical issues, and 1 w/developmental delays. Every situation has been handled immediately & professionally. The staff is friendly & fun, but firm w/the kids, preparing them for their lives ahead. My older kids love to go back & check in w/previous teachers b/c they made such a positive impression upon their lives. When the elementary lines were redrawn several years ago, we fought to keep our kids at this school- a decision I have never regretted.

As a child I attended Hartstern, and I must say I loved it. Every one of my teachers made learning fun. The pta is also wonderful. They always plan fun family events such as field day, fall festival, open house & so on. My child is now attending his first year at heartstern as well. He loves it. His teacher is wonderful. She does everything she can to be sure my child can be the best student possible. She keeps me very involved by sending smile box pictures via e-mail of activities in the class room. It always puts a smile on my face to know she cares, and goes the extra mile with my child. I would recommend this school to anyone. It is a great place, and every teacher there treats your child as their own.

my granddaughter went there from K-2 before moving to Florida, I found it to be an amazing school and the teachers and Principal were exceptional. Now that they are back, I pray that the little one who will be in 2nd grade will attend as did her sister. Marcelle Joseph & the Almodovar girls.

I go to Male High School now, and I have to say that the teachers at Hartstern have helped me to be the 3.7 GPA student I am today. I've had great experience with the teachers and the academic team was a great extracurricular activity. I highly recommend Hartstern.
