"My daughter goes to CLS. I do have to say, the teachers there are great. The education itself is great for my kid. There's just one concern I have for the schoool if you ever do consider letting your kid trying to go there: the students are truly ""special."" From what my daughter has told me, all of the students look dead inside. They seemed to talk as if their existence is pointless and meaningless. The prep right there is where I have my most concerns, especially with one student who I think may be messed up in the brain. They constantly flinch and shriek at everything. I've also had my daughter tell me about her seeing a certain group of prep eights that are around on the second floor in a group. Their actions are really strange. I heard one time that same flinching student grabbed some student violently. While I don't personally blame the school itself on these students' actions, it's making me concern for my daughter. I would rather not have her go to school with these people. Until I see better behavior in students, then I'll really think if my daughter should stay in CLS."

When you register for CLS, you have to know what you're getting into. Rigorous coursework, and hours upon hours of homework are to be expected. In order to do well a student must be fully dedicated to academic excellence. Slackers will be gone by sophomore year. Overall, it's a great school, it's just not for everyone.

Unfortunately, Covington Latin School loses 1/3 of its students between freshman and senior years. Some leave on their own, others are told to leave. It's not the work itself that is too hard, it's the workload. It is just not manageable for some kids to do 4+ hours of homework each night. I also don't think the administration realizes how crushing it is to a young teen to fail in high school. Instead of bringing in more students at a younger age, the school needs to take care of the students who are there.

It's a challenging school, very heavy workload and sink or swim atmosphere. They recruit smart kids, but the program is not individualized, so smart kids can and do fail and there is no meaningful remedial help. If I had it to do over again, I would send my child elsewhere; too much pressure and stress for young kids in my opinion.
