Community School #1 Ratings & Reviews

CS#1 is just the kind of school I wanted for my child (but wasn't sure I could find). They focus on character and community as much as they focus on academics. There isn't the obsession with testing that I have seen at other schools. The kids don't sit in desks all day - they are up and moving and active in the community. The school takes a ton of field trips to a wide variety of places and the kids take part in a great selection of arts intensive classes. The school has become an extension of our family and we work together to help raise conscientious, hard-working learners and kind individuals. Our family is so thankful!

CS1 is a gem of a school! We feel so fortunate to have found it. The teachers are outstanding and help nurture creativity, kindness, respect for self and others, and critical thinking skills. The numerous field trips allow students an opportunity for experiential learning and inspiration. The academics are rigorous but at the same time the teachers nurture the whole child. Students learn how to work and play together, and how to become problem solvers. We highly recommend CS1!

My son spent 7.5 years at this school, and it was an excellent experience for all of us. He benefitted from the structure of a consistent lead teacher and curriculum over a long period of time. It taught him to address and resolve problemsΓÇöwith kids and adults of all ages. In addition to an excellent preparation academically, he learned to take ownership of his education and his relationships. His teachers in middle and high school now commend him for his engagement in his own education and for his character.

Community School #1 is the most amazing educational experience for Kansas City kids! My wife and I looked all over and when we finally toured CS#1, we knew it was perfect. The kids at CS#1 go on more field trips in a month than other schools go on in a year. It's incredible. seriously. Incredible. You should have one of the CS#1 Students give you a tour! cs1elementary.org

When we started looking for alternatives to public schools (we live in an under-performing school district), we were so pleased to have found CS#1! It allows children the opportunity to learn through experiencing the world around them, versus solely through textbooks and lectures. The one-room schoolhouse concept was a big draw, as was the art and language classes (taught by professional artists and native speakers). We were excited about so many aspects of this school and it has definitely met our expectations!
