I appreciate the cultural diversity present in the student body. My children's teachers have been good fits for them. Not every teacher is a perfect fit for every child, but we've had a great experience so far. I feel like the teachers challenge them, but also allow them to be kids.

Both of my children have excelled at Cumberland, including my child with special needs. They have had caring, nurturing teachers who have taken the time to individualize their instruction to meet their students’ specific needs. My children started out struggling, especially with reading, and now both of them enjoy reading and are doing well thanks to the dedication of these teachers! We love Cumberland!

One of the best schools with fabulous teachers! My daughter's progress in reading, science and social skills were amazing. I can definitely say she had such a personalised type of education here by the great help and guidance of her teachers. We love Cumberland Elementary!

"When my son was at Cumberland, he was pushed hard to do work that was above his grade level (often huge projects that were assigned seemingly weekly) while doing more homework than any child has any reason to do. My child began to hate school and this negative early start has affected him all the way through middle school. Most of his teachers were nearing retirement and clearly burned out. Paraphrasing the principal: ""teach a child to do everything in elementary so it's no big deal to do it once you get to high school.""Projects were assigned that no elementary school student could possibly do without a parent doing the lion's share of the work. When I went to meet with a teacher she had projects on display from previous students as ""examples"" that were superior to what I'd expect from the average high school student. These were expected to be completed at home. It was college prep for elementary school. As a result my son started avoiding doing homework because he was overwhelmed and just wanted to play. He felt like he'd put in his time, and I felt like he had too. He would leave it at school and pretend he didn't know he had any. Unfortunately that does not set up the ""good habits"" the school pretends to espouse.Midway through the 3rd grade school year I mentioned to another parent that my son's teacher was appalling--she was angry all the time, actually took the students into a separate classroom so her co-teacher couldn't hear her, and told my son's class they were the worst class she'd ever had. I tried to have him removed from her class but ""because of I-step"" the principal refused to do it. The other parent nodded and said she heard from another parent that teacher had thrown a trash can the year prior. So after Cumberland he went on to Happy Hollow. Same school district, new leadership. And he was happy and excelled there. The homework was age-appropriate and we didn't have a single project that felt was out of line. In fact, there were very few projects that the teachers didn't handle 100% in classroom.Unfortunately JR High is more of the same. Put 12/13 year olds in with high school students and expect high school work. Appalling."
