They refuses to take doctor recommendation into consideration for a xhilds placement in the iEP. The principle feels she knows more then doctors at riley's childrems hospital and a childs psychiatrists . As a parent you of a child with special needs you have no voice at the iep meetings. Any concerns the school quick dismisses as not a school problem. I pray each night that this nightmare will end and children at this school will get the services they need.

I feel my school is safe and my children are loved. I have children in 3 different classrooms and I know I can contact my childrens' teachers at any time and they always get back with me promptly and help create an action plan for academic and social issues.

My child has learning disability, and while he is provided with accommodations that I had to fight for, I am dissatisfied with interventions to keep him on track academically, as well as to improve his executive functioning needs. The school is not set up to work as a PLC or in teacher teams. Teachers are mostly on their own, and I don't see support in RTI to help kids who can't keep up. Teachers are paid by how well kids do on ISTEP, so that is a concern. The makes ISTEP an overly prominent focus. Students are pushed hard to keep up with common core standards, but the school pushes curriculum without helping kids master the basics first. I do a ton of remedial work with my son at home. Also, I'm not sure that the school knows what to do with parents who want to work in tandem with the school. I am extremely active in my son's remedial work and in getting supplementary testing and outside therapy. The school isn't set up to communicate smoothly with parents or to work in partnership to provide parents input and help. Active parents can be seen as intrusive, when we're simply concerned about kids not getting support they need. If I could find another school system, I would.

I LOVE this school & it's very close knit, attentive faculty. I have access to my sons teacher, grades, & behavior at all times. And with the bully situation gaining severity all over the nation, I feels completely at ease sending my son to this school where they not only discourage such behavior, but also take the time to teach students how to effectively deal with and defuse high stress situations.

Throop is a top-notch school. Two of my children and two of my grandchildren are Throop Elementary graduates. The education they received while at Throop provided an excellent foundation for future eduction.
