I understand that many parents have had poor experiences with the current administration. However, I believe that the school has a bright future as new leadership is taking over. The teachers are dedicated and willing to work with students before and after school and on weekends. They take students to events off campus and encourage scholars to engage with their own communities. The academic rigor and growth continue to speak for themselves on standardized tests. The Tindley system isn't for everyone. It takes a village to raise young men into leaders, scholars, and future role models. It only works if the parents and family are on board. It's not an easy school, but it sets young men up for success in theit future academic and extracurricular endeavors like no other school in the area could offer.

While the concept of this school is great, the actual implementation falls short. It is a culture of adults bullying children and belittling parents. My son and his friends are very nice young men - courteous and well-mannered and definitely interested in getting a good education. Unfortunately, most of the administration's time is spent is trying to catch these young men doing something wrong. As another parent stated, it is very much as if they are in the prison system already, rather than young men attempting to get an education. My husband and I recently attended a parents' meeting to discuss concerns with Ms. Marshall, the new Chancellor. While it appeared that she was very interested in everything the parents had to say, the atmosphere and culture of the school actually worsened after the meeting. It left the impression that the children of the parents who spoke up are actually being penalized for their frank and honest expressions of dissatisfaction and frustration. My child will not attend this school next year because I do not want him to emulate the behaviors that he is seeing adults display in this environment.

Tinley Prep Academy is a school of excellence. The school structure instills in the sons of excellence self control and self discipline...qualities these young men will utilize throughout their lives. I'm impressed with the academic structure as well. I believe this is the best inner city school in the community.

My son transferred into Tindley Prep. from a Pike Township middle school. He was six weeks into his seventh grade year. Since he is a child with ADHD, he has difficulty with focus and staying on task in class. He was not doing well with the large class sizes at the Pike school. We toured TPA and talked to the counselors and subsequently decided to give it a try. He had a pretty decent year at TPA. We love the fact that he doesn't get the chance to fall behind. When he's struggling with something, he's immediately given the chance to stay after school for one on one help. He made the honor role every semester and we have decided to let him come back for eighth grade. We also like the no nonsense discipline policies. Not to say we agree with all of them, some are a bit over the top. They are extremely strict with the dress code, but seem to be very lax with the dress code for the administrative and teaching staff. The teacher turn over is a bit high. My son had three different teachers for his humanities class. Near the end of the year they had no teacher and the principal was subbing for the class. Overall though, the school works for us just fine. No school is perfect.

I Would not recommend this school for any young man.. They have poor communication skills among the administration. They will suspend your child for any reason necessary. the suspensions they do give out are very unwarranted. This is not a school for today's young men. They care about financial status more than education of the child. This is not repeat not a good school for your son to attend.
