Southport High School Ratings & Reviews

the school is ok but they spend more time on upgrading their gyms, fields, hallways, and cafeterias then they do upgrading the students and their education. Southport is a school of sports not really education, you will learn a few things but if you are an athlete then this school is for you. I had a pretty good experience here but I never exactly felt like I fit in well enough and I did cross country and track but im more of a reader and writer. cross country was the worst experience for me because my own teamates would talk about me and other girls behind my back about how I didnt try hard enough in cross country and how I mess up, that made me feel kinda insecure about practice. at this school if people find out one mistake a have or do then enjoy getting talked about. This school isnt bad but it isnt great and like i said before if you arent much of an athlete or an athlete at all then this is not the place for you. this school is a kingdom for big popular athletes.I also saw how they treat the boys sports team better then the girls sports team. The boys there get special fancy looking clothes and backpacks while the girls get heavy annoying bags and cheap boring clothes. that school to me is kinda sexist.

The food isn't that tasty and I don't think it's that healthy either. But I think it is easy to make "friends" and prepare yourself for college or whatever it is you want to do here. Some teachers here aren't as stuck up or sophisticated as I would like though. And the ECAs or ISTEPs that you have to take here to graduate can be REALLY unfair. I am in Honors Geometry and while that class is fun it is practically illogical to take sense Geometry problems never showed up and instead asked algebra questions. I had a really hard time taking it and no one even told that it wouldn't be on the tests. Also, bullies are on discount here. If you are poor, small, smart, or not pretty/handsome then you are going to run into some bullies. Teachers are super bias. If you don't play a popular sport or you aren't the absolutely most popular kid in the class forget to get on the teacher's good side.People are VERY judgy as well if you don't go in looking like a Hollister or north face supermodel expect at least 10 to talk trash about you behind your back. One final thing if you think your daughter's virginity isn't that important then this is the perfect place for you.

I believe that this school has a great policy for fighting "one and done" automatically expelled which cuts down on the violence. Bullying however seems to still have impact on a lot of students. I wish they had a strict policy for it as well. Many of the students get bullied on the daily. Their sports teams are amazing. Clubs are good too. Wish they had a drama Club for all the students that was involved and would like to be involved in theater. I have reached out to several of the teachers when my daughter was having some issues with her grades. they are very considerate and helpful. The support by some of the counselors is great as well. My daughter is a freshman, and for the most part enjoys school

I've been at SHS for a year now. Some of the teachers here really seem to care about how well you do and others do not care at all. This school to me mainly cares about it appearance to others than it does its students and education. They spend thousands for this new construction but can't afford enough books for every student to have or decent food. I went to Beech Grove up till the end of my sophomore year I absolutely loved it there and I even attended Perry Meridian and I'd say both schools are better than SHS.

I will say that if you don't have money or your not one of the popular students here then the teachers don't like you. This school is another Manual high school except they discriminate.
