Excellent. This is a small school that allows for a lot of direct, individualized interaction between teachers to their students (I'm amazed at how many assorted staff members seem to know all the kids by name). Several faculty members are clearly passionate and committed to helping students--and it shows. The campus and outdoor nature setting allows for unique learning opportunities: sledding and fishing for gym class, orienteering/navigation to apply arithmetic skills, gardening/harvesting to learn about food groups, etc. My kids love the forest trails. Technology/computer use is built in to the curriculum for many other classes. Their addition of a jr. robotics club to now include kindergartners has been amazing. IPS schools have some serious systemic problems, but Cold Spring works to get ahead of or prevent many of them and has been a lovely surprise for us.

"Im pulling my daugter out of the Horrible school. This was her first time in a ""magnet"" school, instead of going to her assigned school, which has a F grade for the state. The communication is horrible, I have to always ask, whats going on, ask about grades. Im so disappointed in the Principle, and the assistant principle, Mr. Hakeem, he is a joke. There are just pushing her along instead of helping her understand whats going on. My child got lost in the shuffle, and now she feels like there is no hope. Before I cuss these worthless "" teachers and front office out, Im pulling her out, and driving her somewhere else."

"We searched high and low for a school for our child. We are an out-of-district family, but have found a home at Cold Spring. We love how small the school is (two grades per class!) and how the students are known by all grade-level and specials teachers. It makes it hard to ""hide"" at this school and be forgotten. The administration takes the time to speak to parents and listen to concerns. We have been happy with how we have been listened to when we have questions. The students here receive a full hour of their special each week. They are adding a Science rotation to better utilize the outdoor classrooms. This school is full of caring and considerate teachers and staff and we're Proud to be Public."

My kids have been at Cold Spring for two years. The teachers are wonderful but the principal leadership is not. I have noticed that students are not held to a higher standard on behavior as they were with the past principal. She is MIA a lot at school events. A car hit a bus in the parking lot and she let the teachers deal with it. Took her over 30 minutes to come out of her office to see what was going on! Another serious problem is many times this school year, when a teacher is absent, the class is split up among all the other classes. Second graders placed in older classrooms, given a packet to complete if they want but usually watched 2 movies. This happened about 6-8 times thru the year, 4 of which was the last part of the last semester. There are no fun days, like spirit day, hat day, crazy hair day....they could pay $1 to wear jeans on occasion. The outdoor classrooms were also not used as much as I thought they would be used. We are switching schools to a more structured, more traditional, more student/parent focused that holds behavior of the students to a higher level.
