I absolutely love this school. It has many opportunities to improve and the teachers push their students to so well. After going to a NACS until 3rd grade, I really felt like they challenged me to do well. I'm now going into 8th and I plan to do three sports (all inclusive until high school), the musical, Latin, French, and play the viola (stringed instrument.) They also have different math levels (the four math classes for seventh grade): a foundations 2 class; algebra prep; algebra 1; geometry. I personally think the homework load is alright, because it takes 2 hours on an average night, although I've talked to some people that take 4 or 5 hours to do it. It proves that Canterbury is not for everyone, which is alright for some. Although it has some downfalls, like a Harry-Potter-styled house system, or some snobby kids, it's a well rounded school with many opportunities, great faculty, and many respectful students. It's a good fit for many.

The curriculum they have for Early Childhood Development up to High School program is what you don't see any other place. Both of my children are now in their Early Childhood Development programs. Students learn everything with thematic approach in the environment there is no a single answer but they are encouraged to be creative. It means they first learn something from a book that a teacher reads, express what they learn in art form, and sometimes take a field trip to learn what is done in a real world. It is amazing how dedicated and effective those teachers are when it comes to having students getting very excited about learning the subject matters and getting students succeed in schools, college and beyond. The Average teacher to student ratio is 1:9, average SAT scores are very high. Last year 98% of the students got accepted by colleges before graduation. I highly recommend you send your child(ten) to this school.

After 2 terrible years at a SACS middle school, we enrolled our child at Canterbury. The adjustment was practically seamless. The atmosphere is welcoming and supportive, the students are friendly, and the teachers are accessible and willing to provide extra help. The classes are small in size (14-16), challenging, and the expectations are high, but everyone wants your child to succeed. Canterbury places an emphasis on the arts, as well as academics, and students are encouraged to try new activities. All students can join a sport and have at least some playing time. Almost all students participate in the annual musical. Canterbury also offers field trips, from short, local trips to the opportunity to go to France or Costa Rica over thanksgiving break. In addition, there are several all-school activities that promote the feeling that your child is part of a family. Enrolling our child at Canterbury was one of the best decisions we have made.

It may seem magical but it is demonstrated daily in the teaching at canterbury school; a love for learning, a wonder to discover and belief in self as capable. My two year old walks in a line with peers, my three year old learned cooperative play, my now four year old grows his world with acquistion of the languages of french and music. Each class has two qualified teachers who model responsible citizenship, scholarly pursuit of knowledge and care for others. When the precious mind of my child has such a world to embrace, i am honored to be a part of such a school that is more than a school, it is a community.
