I think it is a great school

I’m giving CCS a 5 star review but probably for a much different reason than most. My children were in the public school and doing exceptionally well, except for one. Although they were all thriving academically, one of my kiddos has Aspergers Syndrome and was having a difficult time with sensory overload. The public school was amazing about how they put together a plan to work with his accommodations and they monitored him very well. But a mama knows her chick’s heart better than anyone. My little guy was struggling inside. I could not afford to send my kids to a private school so I looked into homeschooling. There are some amazing homeschooling communities in Col. but deep in my heart, I knew this was not our solution. I took it to prayer and decided to check out the private schools because if it was meant to be, God would provide. In the end, we chose to send our child to CCS because it goes all the way to highschool. Our child would need routine and familiarity and this would work. Now, here’s why I give the school a 5 star: God is breathed into my children every single day. They have Bible class every day, the curriculum points to God, the teacher’s pray with them, & they have chapel once a week. And my favorite, when there’s a disciplinary matter, they bring it back to God. We saw such a huge change in our child. He actually felt good about himself for the very first time because he was now surrounded by peers and staff who are reminded every day that they are each unique creations of God. All our children now attend CCS, at their pleading. We prayed together for God to provide and he has. CCS is not a perfect school. It doesn’t have all the bells and whistles that the public schools have. But it does have something far more powerful...God. I sat through an upper grade chapel service in tears. They do not sugar-coat anything at this school. These kids are not in a bubble nor are they sheltered. They present life right in front of them and show them how God is in it. I never had that when I was in school. I had band, sports, activities that this school does not offer but in the end, my heart needed what these kids are getting...the Truth!

When we moved to Columbus in 2011, our family looked into all the schools in the area and were thankful to find CCS. I received a K-12 Christian education and know the profound impact it made on both my personal and spiritual growth. The class sizes are intentionally small so students receive personalized instruction. We have seen our children grow academically, socially and spiritually while they have attended CCS! Biblical principles have been the overarching foundation for everything. As parents, we are thankful to partner with a school in the training and instruction of our children to love and serve the Lord. They love their teachers, friends and the safe, family environment. We feel the investment we are making in their Christian education will set them on a path toward living a fruitful life for the Lord. Access to a great school like CCS - in a small town like Columbus - is a gift!

I attended this school for a short while and found myself questioning my faith now more than ever. There is no solid foundation behind CCS. Although the students were welcoming, I found that many were not as educated as the students from my previous school. I would't recommend CCS to anyone. Teachers allow students to be on their cell phones almost all throughout class, and many teachers do not follow through with any punishments, nor do they follow through with anything they say.

Columbus Christian School is lacking significantly in qualified teachers. There are some that are not even licensed by the state. The academics are below state standards. The ISTEP scores are terrible for a private school. They are not a Fully Accredited school. They are what is call Freeway Accredited. There are major differences between the two that you can look up on the Indiana Dept. of Education’s website. The school is supposed to be a non-denominational Christian environment but that is not the case. The teachers and administration seem to push their own personal beliefs of Christianity onto the students as well as in the academics. The school has absolutely no Science or Technology programs that are worth mentioning. There are hardly any or very minimal electives for the older students. There is not even a school library other then what appears to be a room a little larger then a closet. They are unable to retain qualified educators that ensure consistency. This school is way behind academically and in most criteria when compared to the public schools in the area. The school needs to have better qualified leadership and most certainly retention of CERTIFIED teachers. Needless to say, our children did one year at this school and are going back to public school. This is unusual because you would think that a private Christian School would outshine the public schools in the tri-county area but that is not the case here. We sacrificed financially on false premises based on what we were told by both the Elementary and Junior High/ High School principals regarding what this school can offer. We were mislead and almost $15K later in tuition and other fees are glad we are through the school year and our children are getting put back on track academically in the public school system. This school is all about the money and there is not a time you will darken the doors of this place for any type of function without having to pay money or being asked to donate money. It was to the point that we didn’t invite family members to our children's programs due to embracement of the school constantly asking for donations. Please do your homework and research this school.
