Columbia City High School Ratings & Reviews
A great school isn't made through it's curriculum, a great school is made by great teachers and that this school offers. Columbia City is a wonderful little town with a church on every corner, community activities on the court house lawn, and a great many small businesses. The High School is sadly being moved to a terrible location, it will be highly congested and a pain to pick up your kids....
I graduated in the class of 2010 (last year). I think that the ratings that talk of a horrible school are totally bunk. Yes, Columbia City is in an older building, but Columbia City (at least from an academic standpoint) is not a bad school in almost any conversation. The downfall for the school is when it is compared to other area high schools (Homestead, Carroll, etc). Columbia City seems to be pretty low on the list for rigor in preparing students for college. I also like what the county is doing by trying new things in order to better prepare students such as Eagle Tech (which is coming this next school year) and transferring of non-effective administration.
I am going to this school as of now and I am of the class of 2013. I think that the Honors classes' programs are challenging but rewarding and never do the teachers expect you to do a mass amount of work by yourself. Great School all around and our basketball team went to semi-state so the sports isn't so bad either.
I went to this school from 1999-2003 and I think that anyone who sees this school as anything other than successful needs to get a clue. Sure, the diversity isn't what it would be in bigger cities, but the overall education and life lessons that CAN (if the student applies themselves) be learned are significant. I went on to graduate from Butler University, which is quite difficult, after graduating and playing football at CCHS. Sure, the athletic coaches may have never been the best, but anyone who says that the school is out to get a student to fail is living in some sort of fantasy world.
