Our school could be improved in many ways. The Athletes are favored by the teachers and have rules that don't seem to apply to them. The Choir director loves the show choirs and treats the other choirs like second class citizens. There are some good teachers, but most seem uninterested and are reluctant to help students. Fighting has gotten out of hand lately, making it an unsafe environment.

I am Currently a senior at Chesterton and I have been in private school and also in the Portage school system. Chesterton is by far the best you can get in NWI. All of my teachers were on the top of everything at all times. Also I wish people would quit complaining about how the "jocks" get away with more than the "normal" students. Life's not fair, it never was and never will be.

I have had three children go through the duneland schools. One is now in college and one is in High School and CHS. Due to my child having a medical condition they have an IEP. I wasnt sure if CHS would be a help or not. I can tell you that they have wonderful teachers who really care, and once they understand what they are faced with they really do try and help. My child is on the honor roll and with the help of Ms. Corso she is excelling.

principals and administrators are absolutely horrible. My son got threatened with expulsion for playing "hackysack" with a few of his friends after they got out of vocational. The principal (Mr. Goetz) even told the boys before, "you can play hackysack outside, just not inside the building." The next time principal saw them playing outside, he brought them inside and told them they could not go home, and were forced to sit in the cafeteria after they were out of school for the day. There were other occasions where unnecessary punishment was used over really ridiculous things. They're supposed to be there to help the students. How is this helping them? It's just making them want to rebel against authoritative figures like Mr. Goats and Kevin Zeck.

I am a graduate of Chesterton High School and have had three children graduate from CHS.. CHS is not the same school that I attended but lets look at the reason why. When I was in school the parents supported the school, and the expectation was that you attended school to get an education. This is not the case anymore. Too many parents are critical of the schools because they are afraid to admit their own shortcomings as parents. CHS offers programs for every child. If your child cannot find his niche at CHS it is because he/she isn't looking and or they are not encouraged to do so by their parents. Oh, my oldest graduated from college recently and is now teaching. He will tell you that he was more prepared for college than 90% of his classmates in college. The same is true of my two other children in college. Great job CHS!
