Bloomington High School North Ratings & Reviews

As a former student, I must say that Bloomington Highschool Norths faculty helped me greatly in preparing for college level classes. It has classes for all skill levels, regular, honors, and AP. They also offer a great junior/ senior internship program that is known throughout the community, and gives students the opportunity to intern at IU, doctors offices, with the city, or where ever the student wishes as long as it is practical. It also offers some classes both from IU and Bloomington's Community college Ivy Tech North offers a great Fine Arts classes that have put out some national award winning pieces of art, a phenomenal English department and social studies department, and a pretty good science department. The school also has a strong group of administrators, some better than others. This school is not perfect just like any high school in the area or the country for that matter, there are some bad teachers, and kids that get away with things, but again it's hard not to find that anywhere.

There are such nice teachers, the principal is nice and easy to talk to, and best of all are the counselors! There is a diverse community of students there, and it's a good environment to be in.

I've had two children attend Bloomington High School North and I haven't been happy with alot of the Teachers or Administrators either time. They act as if they are there to baby sit and not teach. My current child that goes there has to stay on top of the teacher just to make sure the teacher does their job and grades the paper without loosing it. I check the website often to see how my child is doing and the teachers do not keep it up to date which makes my child's grades look bad. I have tried to contact the teachers and they are not willing to work with the parent. Teacher wants to always blame the student. My child then wants to know how to make the teacher to do their job so that my child doesn't get in trouble at home over their grades. It is very frustrating. I have tried to discuss this with the conselor but they are also not willing to meet with the parent. They even screwed up my childs schedule and gave her a class that had a prerequisite that she didn't meet then blamed it on the parent/student because we were suppose to have known that (dropping the class was not allowed). I see why more students are going to home school.

whoever had a post November 6 post obviously is thinking about another school. I feel as if that person clearly didn't attend any honors science classes and defiantly no AP classes their whole career at north. I will agree that north lacks in teaching depth when it comes to academically low rigor courses. But with every AP course there is a more than able teacher. North is a great school for those who want to excel, for those who want to take hard classes and make a big impact in their community. But if you are not willing to take the hard classes and to put in the time it takes to really excel... i guess you will have the same review as the student below me. I'm a junior at north and it is great to be a cougar.

I attended North my sophomore-senior year and found the quality of education very poor. The level of difficulty for honors classes at North was what I experienced in regular classes at my old school. Regular and most honors classes at North were not sufficient to college preparation, but there is an IU release program if you ask for it. I had no teachers, administrators or counselors who were supportive or helpful in the college prep process. They seemed bothered when asked how to register for the SAT etc. There is not a serious work environment and I experienced the school as highly over-rated. I would recommenced any parent do their research on test scores etc. (compared to even much smaller area schools). During my time there students frequently got away with smocking in the building, skipping school etc. very often. I would never send my child there if I had any choice
