The schools I've been to were terrible. Sometimes nobody did anything about bullying. I'll admit some schools are good but the high school is terrible.

Being in the Avon system for the full k-12 experience I'd say it was fine until 4th grade onwards. The last year of elementary started with classes being taught in portable rooms because of the number of students exceeded the number of available classrooms. This was temporarily resolved by building more elementary schools but with class sizes now nearing 1,000 per grade in HS the town is growing faster than the schools can keep up. There are not enough buildings, teachers, textbooks, spots on sports teams or money for the school to continue providing regular one on one attention to their students,A great music and sports program and if your child is in an accelerated learners program they will thrive. If you have a normal student, not involved with extracurriculars then look for a smaller school, like Coatesville or Danville for more one on one attention on a daily basis and more opportunities to join a sport for fun rather than fighting 500 kids for a few spots. If you don't start a sport in middle school or at the latest freshman year, you are usually out of luck.Avon is very competition driven. A bad example of this being their Girls basketball program about to fall through because over the past few years they haven't been able to keep a coach and many HS girls leaving the sport due to favoritism between parents and coaches. A good example of this being the very talented and dedicated marching band. Huge class sizes, not enough teachers. Lots of referendums being thrown around with the threat of firing teachers...asking for higher taxes for the schools yet we still have to pay for mandatory laptops, texts books that are never used (and not even enough for all the children in a class to take home) and huge college level looking sport and band facilities. With nearly 1,000 kids per class its more of a college campus than a HS. They start pushing the college is the only option agenda as early as 5th grade by asking what you want to be and recommending colleges to start looking at. If you don't know what you want to do you are ostracized. This is not a school where you are encouraged to work towards a trade, its 4 year college or nothing. The only difference with Avon and schools like Carmel is the class sizes, the price of housing, and the huge amount of bullying.

There are so many opportunities at AHS. It is a very big school with so many ways to get involved. Top notch academics.

As someone who's attended a multitude of schools in two different states and four different cities, I must say Avon is the worst I've been to. It's not the academics that I have a problem with, it's everything else. Secondly, some of the teachers and administration are rude! They don't care about the students, just their pay check. The only teachers I know that get to know their students are the ones that get to see their students after school or multiple times a day. It's like if you only see them once a day, they're just another kid. I just don't like that. I have a family member who was bullied at Avon and the administration did nothing about it! In another situation someone wasn't bullied but the administration accused them of it! When I say I know them, I mean I'm The parents are another serious problem. They think that their kid is the best out there. I watched a fellow student be threatened by an adult on school property the other day... With the administration there. It was absolutely ridiculous. Some parents are crazy and horribly crude to many other students too. Personally I just don't like Avon very well.
