We switched in from another school for Kindergarten, because our son was very frustrated. He immediately felt comfortable and quickly thrived. Transforming a frustrated and disappointed little boy to an enthusiastic learner, more tolerant big brother and a more fulfilled person.

We're on the beginning of our journey (EC program), but it's hard to imagine another school that would suit my daughter's needs better. She is consistently supported in her classroom and her teacher is very realistic in identifying the areas where she might need to grow (primarily in self-regulation) and addresses those concerns directly and with compassion. Despite the statistics noted above, this community is quite diverse: there are many students who receive financial aid to attend and a wide assortment of families from different walks of life. We celebrate a school-wide potluck Cultural Fest that allows our families to share their heritage, whether that's introducing new foods, new ideas or traditions. The school has a strong sense of community involvement and the volunteerism from the parent side is great. There are a lot of different options to get involved, especially as so many families are double-income and don't necessarily have time during the time during the day to come help with class projects, field trips etc. Never have I felt that I'm out of the loop with what's going on the classrooms but don't feel inundated with updates, emails, etc. Twice yearly parent-teacher conferences and Montessori Mornings are there to give you a sense of the overall progress not just with your child but also in the overall classroom. Our teacher (who has been at the school for 20+ years) is very responsive with the things that come up during the year.We utilize the after-school program and after-school activities as well and that group of teachers is equally engaged and excited about their work.I see a lot of low rating from ten years ago-- those really describe a much different school, not just from a staffing perspective but also an infrastructure. The school built a huge addition a few years ago that is not just beautiful, but functional and responsibly built for the goals of the school. It's one of the few LEED Platinum certified schools and has won awards for its thoughtful use especially when considering that they were using a Burnham-era building prior to the addition.I'm getting very long-winded here (and please note, I'm just a parent, not a plant!) but we've been so, so grateful for the experience and the community we found at Chiaravalle and look forward to many years of exciting growth for our daughter AND our family.

Chiaravalle strikes the perfect balance, in my opinion, between nurturing and challenging, urging student to discover a love of learning. Teachers are amazing, professional, experienced leaders in the class who take a quiet role of guiding students to become responsible, effective, students and citizens-- helping to form people who are aware of the world and capable and confident enough to try to make a difference in it. The administration seems very supportive of the teachers and the whole schools functions smoothly and cohesively. For us, it's a perfect place-- we have tried others, Waldorf and progressive approaches-- but this is the school where we have truly had our expectations not just met but really blown away.

The Montessori philosophy aligns with how we're raising our children - to be thoughtful, respectful citizens of the world. We love the vibrant community at Chiaravalle and the different backgrounds and professions of the parents and families. The teachers are compassionate and knowledgable and truly love teaching our children. The 3 year program cycle allows the children and teachers to really get to know each other, allows the older children to teach the younger children, and allows the children to explore their own education at different levels. Our children have really gained self confidence and a deep love of learning. We couldn't be happier with the education they're receiving!
