North-Grand High School Ratings & Reviews

I am a junior Class of 2018 and I have to say all these bad rating don't give the school enough credit as it deserves. Northgrand like any other school is trying to get these students to graduate and go to college. Most of the reviews written on this site are by parents who don't fully explain what's happening with their kids. They don't explain wether or not these kids had bad grades in northgrand or not (maybe that's why your kid needs a tutor). I have to say my freshmen year here I did poorly (had to do with my middle school with lack of attention) but after my first semester here they opened my eyes to see the bigger picture. But overall the amount of pushing from my teachers I've gotten was unexpected. I honestly didn't think I would want to do anything with my life. This school has really motivated me to do better. Anyways enough about me, maybe this school sucked when your kid was here before. Really this school (like any other school) you just have to deal with the other kids that don't wanna do much with their life's and your work. Simple and pretty easy for a student who is motivated. If your kid is having trouble there is help if your kid decides to seek for it.

I have to disagree in part with the person that posted on Jan. 29 2013. You shouldn't assume that all the of students are the same just because of a group of kids that choose to do wrong. Instead you should reach out to these kids and maybe even volunteer to be on the advisory committee as a community member and try to make a difference in at least one child's life. I say this because I'm a parent that works very hard to instill values and respect in my son who is a student at NGHS. I do however have to agree with the scholastics part. The school is not doing a good job of preparing the kids for the ACT exam and college. I have a daughter in 8th grade right now that's researching HS and NGHS is not on her list.

I live aceoss the street from this "school", and can't think of one positive thing about it. The school is at the very bottom of the scholastic standing of public schools even here in Chicago. The students are rude, and I'm very tired of cleaning up the trash they leave strewn across the neighborhood. My next door neighbors drive their daughter several miles each day so she doesn't have to attend this school. I can only believe that the administration, the teachers, and the parents are all failures in instilling values in these kids that would teach them how to be productive citizens.

My daughter and son attended school here and have graduated. I can see how I was totaly misled by our schools now. My children did not get prepared for a life after high schools. I've had to hire a tutor just so my son could take his college admissions exams. There is no academic rigor at NGHS.
