The staff at this school is incompetent and rude. It amazes me that they hire these people to interact with not only our kids but the public as well. They are good at sweeping everything under the rug and never taking responsibility or ownership for anything. I have not run into anyone at this school who is willing to help. They will only continue to go down hill.

As a parent of a current student as well as an alumni, I find that this school continues to evolve and provide the students with more opportunities to excel in life and provides a solid and excellent foundation for the students.

"I am an alumni of Kenwood Academy and I am frankly surprised to see them rated a relatively low""6."" Kenwood is an outstanding school with dedicated teachers, engaged counselors, and motivated students. The school offers a diverse environment and an impressive array of academic offerings. Graduates go on to great universities all over the country. A recent newspaper article cited several Kenwood Academy High School students had earned more than $4 million in scholarships from organizations including the Gates Millennium Foundation, Posse Chicago Foundation and the Golden Apple Foundation. The school is an absolute gem by all reasonable standards."

I'm the Yale-educated parent of an an incoming freshman who also went to Kenwood for middle school. She attended a private elementary school. We made the choice to send her to Kenwood despite the vague concern of some neighbors. And we've been very pleased. Our daughter is well-challenged academically, has made wonderful friends and has been encouraged to pursue leadership opportunities. The academic and performing arts programs are top-drawer. Clubs and athletics are heavily subscribed. Skilled teachers, caring staff and responsive administrators make this possible. As other reviewers point out, the school is less mixed racially and economically than the neighborhood overall. But that seems to be changing as word gets out that Kenwood is back on top - rated 1+ by CPS this year. Either way, there is a sense of pride, activism and empowerment that is distinctly Hyde Park in feel. I can confidently recommend Kenwood to the children of executives, academics, or blue-collar workers. It's got a lot going for it. Be sure to attend the open house.
