Some of the teachers are very nice; however, don't expect professionalism from the assistant principals or principal. The Principal doesn't have her finger on the pulse of any of the school issues nor any solutions to solve them. Bullying and fighting is a huge issue daily. Everyone seems stressed or rushed (I am talking about the staff). Paraprofessionals are extremely rude and become the platform for other students to bully your child. The school is very unorganized, chaotic and overwhelming during transitional periods. Again, it is sad that this school is not a true magnet school as I once thought. Its' level 2+ rating status that is depressing, but deceptive the school pushes grades and honorol for these kids who are not performing at grade level or meeting State Standards. Our kids are not even close to being competitive with other magnet schools city wide. They should change their status to open enrollment because that's what it has become...just another average black school with a bunch of average thinkers.

Mrs. Bertoncini is a very talented and wonderful woman. Me and my son both enjoyed her as teacher and can't do anything but miss her. We've moved to Maryland and the school in the neighborhood we live in now, is not challenging. My son finishes his homework in 2 minutes, since the work is so easy for him. I wish I could bring the school with us. I miss taking field trips.

I was of the 2nd graduating class from Edward W. Beasley when it was called a school for excelling students. I learned more in the time I was there that I did in high school. (I was one of the first class, transferring from Mc Cosh). So many great memories. I lived in Robert Taylor projects and had the honor of contributing to our school mascot name of the Beasley Bees. That is the name I thought of because it was evident that I was among some of the sharpest minds in our community. One of my 7th grade classmates won the competition for drawing our school flag... A bumble Bee with a very sharp stinger. We were on 51st or 52nd and State Street then. Wondering if the school is still located in the same place.

Overall, I'm pleased with the curriculum at Beasley. I had four children attend, two in the gufted program and two in the magnet program. My oldest graduated from the gifted program, two years ago and is now a sophomore at Jones College Preparatory H.S. My other three, one in the gifted and the other two magnet program. My daughter in 8th grade gifted program is planning on attending Lindblom. The other two are in the magnet program and the teachers are really good. Beasley offers their students so much. Everything from; football, basketball, cheerleading, annual high school & college fairs, choir, art, band, student council, violin, wood shop/drafting, boys mentoring, dance, swimming, saftey patrol, yearbook, clubs,Cross Country/track, girls softball, drama, chess, girls mentoring program. The school is large but has a family feel, unifirms are required but you'll save money throughout the year because of it (trust me), the focus is on academics only, Championship sports teams, solid leadership. Graduates typically attend the best. & top high schools, including the top catholic high schools, SE public high schools and top charter high schools.

Beasley is a very good school , especially since this is my child's second year in the CPS school I had doubts about the school system until 8/26/13 now that she attends Beasley , I can most definitely say that she will be a student there until she goes to High School , this is truly a school that prepares the kids for the future beyond elementary school.
