As a homeowner in the neighborhood and seeing this school grow in the last 8 years. I was excited to enroll my daughter into a CPS neighborhood school that defies the information we hear in the news. Since she started in pre-k, every year she's had the most amazing teachers. From registration days, which is very strategic I must say, to the end of the school year, every day has been pleasant. The staff is always helpful , the administration is pleasant and works with all families . But I can't stress enough how happy I have been with ALL her teachers. I will be enrolling my son in the fall at Armstrong. The student and teacher diversity is amazing!

This school is not as great as the 4 and 5 star reviews says. My daughter who struggles in both math and reading since the 4th grade has been allowed to advance to the next grade without extra help from her teachers or attend summer school. As a parent, I'm shocked, she had no requirement for either. So, now her grades continue to suffer each year without much help from the school trying to help catch up. Our entire family spends time helping with homework and school work she doesn't understand. Classrooms are overcrowded and aides helping out is nonexistent. No teacher has tried to intervene yet. Instead, they point out minor issues by giving your child a detention for wearing a white sweater in a cold classrooms instead of a black one. They have no after school programs available. I'm considering moving to the suburbs just to avoid this place and find a better school for her. Not only that, it's far from our home and she's walking 1 block short of a mile to and from school each day. They refuse to give her bus service and says, bus service is only for special needs kids. Her teachers are your typical CPS teachers, nothing special or extraordinary like some of these people are saying. Registration time is chaotic and you should be able to register online or at the end of the school year. Their website is a joke because most of the information needs updating or simply unavailable. Don't be fooled.

This school has been my children's neighborhood school for over the past 10 years. I am very pleased with the education my children have received and continue to receive at this school. Most teachers challenge the students to strive to their full potential, the ones that don't can be addressed by the parent/guardian, and if that fails then you have to go up in the chain of command until the problem gets resolved. There are those teachers as well that go above and beyond and contact parents when the children are not thriving academically or when they are improving and doing well. Education and support begins in the home and continues throughout the student's life, in which both home and school combine forces to ensure their success. Every time I have to move I find housing within the neighborhood to ensure my children's attendance here at Armstrong. Teachers teach academics and parents are the parents, parents teach discipline and enforce it, we cant expect the teachers to be their parent to over 25+ kids or more because some grade levels change classes. If you are unsatisfied with the school in anyway, then get involved as a parent within the school.
