Carbondale New School Ratings & Reviews
We found out about Carbondale New School in Sping 2010. I wish we would have known about it in the summer of 2008, because without a doubt, it would have been where we placed our children. We went to the public schools for two years, and my daughter who was incredibly well behaved and smart, realized she could do the bare minimum. She was not average, and so there was really nothing for her at the public schools. She was well-behaved, so there was very little interaction with the child. This was first grade. Our son, diagnosed with Aspergers when 4 years of age, really only got assistance with academics. There was little interest in helping him with the social aspects, where he needed the most assistance. We moved over to CNS, at the start of the 2010-2011 school year; our daughter began 2nd; son began 6th. The difference in their experience at CNS and the public schools was like night and day. Teachers interested and caring about students and families. Other families who reached out to you and became friends. People ask me about keeping my daughter in a small school when she'll be attending a large high school in a few years. I'm pretty confident that since she attended CNS, she'll have no problem speaking up when needed; that she will be more than fine. And when people ask how my son transitioned to the high school, it went well. CNS is one of the best kept secrets in Carbondale-well worth the money and the experience.
Our 2 children have attended here for several years and our family has been extremely happy with the quality of education they are receiving. Parents are welcome participants in the classroom. I speak to the teachers daily about our children's progress and have always had my concerns taken seriously. We highly recommend CNS.
My child has attended Carbondale New School for a number of years and we have been highly satisfied with the quality of education. This is easily the best school in southern Illinois. The children who attend here are responsible, take the initiative to solve their own problems, are respectful of others, and able to explore their curiosity in learning. The school also offers music (string instruments), and Outdoor Recreation club, chess club, arts and crafts club, Spanish, and has an Outdoor Classroom certified by the National Arbor Day Foundation.
Carbondale New School is a dream come true for my family. I was originally concerned about affording tuition. However I was made aware of scholarship opportunities and rebate options that made the wonderful education at new school a reality for my child. From the second we toured the school I was amazed. From the classroom set up, to the outdoor playground, the fantastic staff EVERY child is given a chance to fulfill their potential. Amanda (the director) is one of the most genuine and kind people I have met in my life. The teachers are always available and willing to work with the parents. Everyone I encountered goes above and beyond their job description on a daily basis. I love the parent and student involvement that keeps this school afloat. There is individualized learning for each child and resources available when your child struggles. Any negative reviews are most likely from a parents bad attitude opposed to a flaw in New School's education. If you are looking for a place that values their students, staff and families check out CNS. You will quickly find yourself a part of one of the greatest FAMILIES I have ever had the privilege of knowing.
This school leaves heartache and woe in its wake. Children leaving the school routinely discover they are a year behind. Beware of positive posts; there is a small minority that runs the school. Enrollment continues to drop because they frankly don't care about EVERY child. Why take the chance that your child?
