North Gwinnett High School Ratings & Reviews

I'm quite surprised that there are so many negative reviews about NGHS here. I graduated from the class of 2014, and my experience at NGHS prepared me very well for college and beyond. While there are a couple of teachers I disliked and felt that they were incompetent, most of the teachers and the classes (especially honors and AP) are outstanding. While NGHS consistently ranks as one of the best academically performing schools, the extra curriculars are spectacular as well. I would definitely send my kids here in the future.

The problem in general with Gwinnett County Schools, is they have become a testing centric organization thanks to the superintendent - Wilbanks. Will you get a good educations, for the most part yes, thats the good part. The bad, the testing mentality rolls down hill and teachers put far too much pressure and even lie to the students in order to keep test grades up, this starts in elementary school. As for N Gwinnett, i'm sure its because the size of the school, but the administration as a whole will not respect any concerns or complaints you or your student bring forward and some of the teachers are allowed to prey on students because of this negligent culture. There are good an bad teachers at every school, but NG has far too many poor teachers. I agree with a previous poster, if you are at the top of your class, this is a great school. If you are a tiger mom, you have found you're home. However, for the other 80%, the school is there to serve themselves and not the students. Due yourself a favor, understand all the rights your son or daughter has and be prepared to be their advocate, the school and county, will not always be forthcoming with you.

My son is enrolled and I feel very confident in the academics and sports programs that he will be successful.

I have 2 kids in 9th grade in this high school. I was a bit worried after reading some of the reviews but my experience has been excellent. All the teachers are very good and really care about the progress of the kids. Excellent parent communication too. I am really impressed by the quality of education provided. Great facilities, great clubs and great sports options too...

To be honest if kids say they hate North Gwinnett so much, it is because they don't even try. Some students just blame their teachers because they fail a class or if they don't bump their child up from a 79 to an 80 when their homework average is at a 42%. Teachers do not expect a student to excel in everything they do, they just want to see them put forth effort. I think this school is one of the best high schools out there. They definitely do not favor anyone because of financial purposes or because of the amount of honors/AP classes a kid takes. Yes they do encourage advanced classes, but that doesn't mean students should overload on them causing them to have no social life. North is an excellent school with very good teachers who genuinely care about their students and who are passionate in the subject that they teach in. It is a good school to get involved in with clubs, sports, or any other extra curricular activities. The school is also very involved with the community. No wonder we're #1 in raising money for Relay for Life! The school is not as crowded in hallways and classrooms due to the construction that took place last year to add a new 3 story academic building and a very nice media center. As a student, I am proud to say that I am a North Gwinnett Bulldog!
