This is our 3rd year in NGMS. With a second child now on 6th grade. The teachers and staff are very professional and dedicated. No complaints.

"My daughter is in 6th grade and she previously attend Riverside Elementary and had the most wonderful experience with teachers, principle and other students. My daughter is black and since she has been a NGMS she has been reminded that she is black and called the ""N"" word more times than her dad and I would like by other students. What is wrong with these students?? The facility and staff do not seem to care. I guess its my daughter's word against some racist kid. I am truly appalled and horrified because we have lived in the area for 16 years and this type of thing has never occurred. NGMS and parents please get it together and take some action on this ridiculousness."

This school is large...but the administration and most of the teachers are amazing. The requirements are high and the students have many excellent opportunities at NGMS.

We moved in from out of state and find this school to be sub-par. We didn't come from a fancy school system that has all the technology. But it was an effective school system that understood and KNEW WHO MY CHILD WAS. The first day of school we didn't even know what time school started, and my child didn't even have their schedule! Totally unacceptable and unprepared! Gwinnett County is supposed to have great schools, which is why we moved to this area. I have another child in high school and we chose this area for that school. The downside was my younger child had to endure a full year at the middle school. The kids have no tolerance for others that are different, leading to a bullying incident with my child. Leadership at the school did not keep me abreast of what was happening with the situation. In fact, other parents knew more about what punishment the kid who was bullying received. The communication at the school is extremely poor at all levels, with the exception of our counselor who was new this year. I have had teachers completely ignore emails regarding my child. The school is way too big. Class sizes are too large, with non-effective extra help options. Kids are pushed into higher level math and science because STEM is trendy right now, but there is no regard for the child as an individual. Kids at this school have skipped a whole year of math in order to take higher level math in high school. Which is fantastic if your kid has a math brain, but what it really does is increase the number of kids who are taking higher level classes in high school which increases the funding that the school gets. If they were interested kid's MASTERING subject matter they would have many more for options for getting help and not pushing kids thru. It's about school funding that is passed off as savings to parents by college credit in hs. Also, lunch was in the middle of a MAIN subject for my child this year. They would go to class for a few minutes, leave to go to lunch (which is only 20 mins long!), then return to that same class. Very strange. Overall I would not recommend this school. It may be a great school system compared to other counties in the state. However, I would encourage parents to research other middle schools within this system and move into the district if they want to go to North Gwinnett High School. The high school is fabulous!

This is my third child that has attended North Gwinnett Middle. We have had great teachers and so, so teachers. However overall I really like this school. There are good teachers and bad teachers wherever you go. Whenever I need to address a concern the teachers are there to respond pretty quickly. This is a huge school that tries to maintain order and structure. I have found the staff to be very friendly and warm to me. The kids are pretty respectful to me when I volunteered, and have also worked as substitute several times.
