No so good! Administration talks the talk, but they don't walk the walk. In order for growth to happen at Austin Road Middle School, Clearly the state need to put this school on their priority list for weekly reviews. In order for the state Milestones scores to increase beyond proficient, there needs to be teachers in place who are determined to dedicate their time and energy to increase students test scores (before, during, after school and on Saturdays). What is a school with NO SUPPORT?

This has been by far the best middle school experience for my son. He just completed grades 6-8 here. My daughter will be arriving there in a few years. Mr. Wiley, Ms. Wiggins and Mr. Richards make up an awesome leadership team. If you are looking for a good neighborhood school with diversity for the working class family, then you have found it. Student expectations are high and if you have a concern as a parent, it is addressed quickly and positively. The admin team listens to parents and are highly effective. This is coming from a parent and a certified educator(not at this school however) who has experience on both sides of the fence. Hats off the ARMS!

This school is a great disappointment. Teachers pile on the homework in order for the students to be taught by their parents at home. There is absolutely no teacher-to-student learning. Very poor teacher competence.

This school currently has a tracking program in place that they call "academies." It was designed and implemented by their principal, Mr. Wiley, and given approval by the HCBOE. It is the ONLY school within Henry County that has such a program in place. Not one piece of information regarding this new idea has been put in writing and disseminated to parents. I have asked multiple times for more information regarding what exactly it is and its effectiveness, and have been met with hostility from school administrators. They asked that parents be involved, but unless you are simply bringing snacks and cupcakes, they really don't want your input. The counseling department needs an overhaul. A couple of the staff that I have come into contact with are rude, and lack the finesse to deal with parents who bring legitimate concerns. We are currently looking at other programs. If I had my absolute choice, and if you can, avoid this school.

I am a parent within the community and my children may attend this school within a couple of years but from my first impression they may be going elsewhere. Basically, I walked into ARE Mid to ask a community-related question and the first thing I noticed was the woman at the front desk wearing a hoodie, yes a hoddie....the ones with the hood on the back and the big pockets on the front. I mean if it's cold wear a professional sweater, who wears a hoodie to work? I tried to look past that but the woman put someone on hold to address me but kept saying Hon this and Hon that. I was not going to stoop to her level of ignorance in which I could have started calling her sweetcakes. The principals website is filled with this long list of accomplishments and although that is great, his staff should also accommodate the same ideas and values. Calling someone Hon in a professional environment is unprofessional. Wearing hoodies to work is unprofessional. I will spread the word for all the parents whose children will be attending on my experience so far. Get it together ARE Middle school, I can already tell the kinds of problems you have which include your staff.
