My experience at this school was amazing. The teachers are always willing to help students who needed it and those who asked for it. The AP program is the best in the county, and very highly ranked in the state. Sports are amazing and help lower income kids be apart of something. The sports also builds the children’s character, inspiring many to further their education. There is a place for everyone in Monroe. A very diverse school, everyone is friends. Awesome principle who cares about the students. Great English, Science, and Social Studies departments but Lacking in Math. Although Mrs. Lynch was an outstanding math teacher! The councilors in the 17-18 school year we’re the best by far! Many of the people in my senior class would be called up front, just to make sure they were doing okay and for encouragement. Teachers were quick to speak up for the students. The Assistant Principal was quick to help me personally on scholarship application. It’s hard to see from the outside looking in how great the atmosphere is. Alot of kids got into UGA & Georgia Tech compared to the rest of the county. Mr. Bowling and Ms. Farmer are also amazing! The class of 2018 loved Monroe, no place I would have rather been for 4 years!

Sinking ship.. 262nd in the state in 2011 with 1241 students, got a new principle and went up to 241st in state (with 135 less students) but honeymoon ran out and by 2015 302nd!!!! in the state with only 1104 students (maybe the smart ones left). Agree with last comment on teachers but probably that way everywhere. I should of bought a house in the Walnut Grove or Loganville school districts as one daughter enters next year and 3 more behind her.

It's not a welcoming school. I don't expect the "lovey-dovey" atmosphere you get at an elementary school but a little courtesy goes a long way--re: rude receptionist. And the registrar's office? A total waste of money. Rude, incompetent and just all around useless. The teachers, for the most part, are really good. A few excellent, a few horrible but most fall in the solid "good" range.

Look at SAT scores before sending your son / daughter to MAHS. Be prepared to hear every excuse known to man on why MAHS does so poorly on standardized testing.
