Dislike all the staff. Front desk staff is rude and stuck up. Teachers don't care and will just pass kids along even if they are failing.

As a student of this school who is on their final eighth-grade year here and has seen the dramatic transition from pencil-and-paper lectures to mindless video frolicking, the school has dropped in the quality of its teaching tremendously.Math has been struck the hardest of all the subjects I am learning right now. I do not remember if I even retain the lesson knowledge from the course. If I do ever have the motivation to study, I study for at least a week until I feel very strong about the standard. Even so, I am only able to suffice at most an 80% on the summative tests, and I have a 72% average with how the class is going so far.I am barely passing, yet I am a student who has once been able to constantly hit the Principal's Honor Roll the two years prior to this year. Taking a high school math course, I definitely do not want this kind of score on my transcript. Algebra 1 in particular is already challenging, and taking it again would certainly be a hassle. If the school did not throw the student into the deep ends of the water with possibly one of the hardest courses in my school career, I wouldn't have complained about this for the entirety of the year. Nothing, and I say NOTHING has improved since August, and here I am writing this in May.The teacher appears very intimidating to ask. However, if you do not ask him if you have trouble with something, he will not come his way to speak with you. I believe there should be a stronger student-teacher relationship. Of course it should not be a sort of babysitting, but some students at this point are still unsettled at the fact of asking for a teacher's help. The only other kind of help you have are other classmates and the videos the teacher provides you to learn the subject. Often enough, watching the videos forget to explain some things you find on the summatives that you've never seen before. In other words, they do not teach thoroughly enough to include these kinds of things.Despite my bad mouthing of the math teacher, the other teachers are alright because you feel less frightened by their presence. If you get something wrong on a test, you'd know why it would. There are also hands-on activities that teach the subject better. To at least give some kudos to the school, the orchestra program is probably the best thing here. By best, I actually mean national standards and constant superior ratings.

Principal Michael Lemoyne is HORRIBLE. Suffice to say previous negative comments are conservatively accurate. This guy cares about one thing only and that is the Milestone testing for school rankings. Absolutely Pathetic!. The Spanish department has teachers who cannot speak nor can they teach Spanish. The math department isn't too far behind. This school is a rudderless group of self centered teachers and a disinterested principal. We have had to deal with 3 years of this garbage. Now it is even worse as most of the teachers do nothing but sit at their desk looking at Facebook, etc. They handed the students laptops and expect them to teach themselves. An overall horrible experience.

I have had numerous issues with this school. From the moment we moved to this district we had to strongly advocate for our child to get tested into TAG and other various advanced classes. It is not that they wouldn't test but rather they were extremely disorganized and scheduled it several months into the school year (even though we requested her to be tested before the next school year) . By that time we had to decide if we wanted to pull our child out of classes where she just made friends. We decided against it.The biggest issue however, is the lack of leadership from the principal. He gives the teachers free range to run their classes how ever they want. This leads to some very good teachers and some really bad ones. Our worst experience was in the math department where our accelerated student was put into a class where the teacher did not teach. He handed out packets of math and assigned learn Zillow videos. She did well but only because we had someone tutoring her. In addition, the Spanish Department did not prepare her for Spanish 2 in high school. At Hopewell they do conversational Spanish and when she went to Cambridge she was WAY behind her counterparts from Northwestern in Spanish grammar. It was a rough first few months.
