Timber Ridge Elementary School Ratings & Reviews

Timber Ridge has been great for my 2 children, 1 in First the 2nd in Third grades. Being their 2nd year here, they've had excellent teachers and even those teachers in the surrounding halls have shown to be just as good too. I like the balanced approach to schoolwork, being active and the general interaction between students. It seems most everyone: students, parents, teachers and school staff are respectful and genuinely desire success all around. My only concern is that I do wish they would expound more on their gifted program and provide a greater outlet for those students more advanced. I understand that in the past, this school at one time was not one of Henry County's best and now having our new principal and the current staff, this doesn't seem to be the case. Ratings have increased dramatically from what I've seen before and heard from those familiar with the school in previous years. I believe it to be one of the best and my kids love it.

This school has given me a horrible experience this year due to the failure to give me advanced work. My teacher has told me he does not know how to teach me due to my knowledge. I thought school was for learning.

The teachers at Timber Ridge have been wonderful. It's very sad to see the good ones leave because of the stressful work place created by the administration- which trickles down to the students- the students are then stressed and sad as well. So many good families have left- to private school -or other schools with open enrollment- over the last few years because it's just too much. It's a shame the county lets this continue year after year. Its pitiful that the thought is teachers are easily replaced- so if they don't keep up with the song and dance required by admin, which changes on a whim, the teachers are shamed and bullied out the door. The big picture may "look" good, but consider the details that promote culture and climate of the staff and students and it is an illusion. All the demands placed on the teachers don't come from the county and state, they are created at the school level- stressed teachers equals stressed students and parents.. this is not how school should be.

We love this school. My son who struggles with A.D.D. received stellar assistance from counselors and teachers. If I ever ran into any issues, Dr. C onsolie and the counselors were quick to come up eith solutions. My daughter had issues with being bullied on the bus. The situation was quickly diffused and they frequently check on my daughter to make sure everything is still ok. We are in the process of moving and my one requirement is that we stay in THE district.

Timber Ridge was not my first choice in Henry, and after a month of experience and speaking with other parents, it still isn't. It's an average school. It mirrors some of the problems plaguing the OTP, especially south - namely an inferiority complex and a resistance to true professionalism and diversity. The office staff is wonderful. Like at most schools, there are some wonderful teachers and administrators, and some you could do without. One particular administrator regularly shows a lack of respect toward colleagues and parents. Some parents are cooperative, sensible, friendly, and respectful, but a vocal group of others lament the changes in McDonough that are being reflected in "their" school, making simple things like lunch with your child and the car line for pick-ups unnecessarily tedious, uncomfortable, and even irritating. I have teaching and parenting experience with 5 other elementary schools in three different states and districts, and TRE ranks right in the middle. It isn't the best elementary school in Henry, and, like the county, it is reluctant to get ahead of obvious changes. Do not seek a genuine experience for your child here, but they put up a lovely facade.
