Powers Ferry Elementary School Ratings & Reviews

Powers Ferry serves a lower income, diverse student population hence why their rating looks so poor. But these ratings are deceiving. I was pleasantly surprised by what a great experience my child had at this school. The teachers were engaged, the office staff friendly, and the principal (new as of 2015-2016) committed to creating the best and safest learning environment for the children. While the facility could use some updating (as most public schools do), the playground/field is larger than most of the elementary schools in the area. I loved that there were a variety of "special" classes like art, music, PE, computer and library visits. My child was always excited to attend school. One of the perks of Powers Ferry is that it has a much smaller school population than the bulk of Cobb County elementary schools which creates a more intimate and personal environment. My child was never lost in the crowd and most of the staff and aides recognized them on sight and greeted them by name each day. If I have any complaints it's that I wish they had a better system of communication and a more vibrant and usable website. (Both on the teacher and school-wide level.) They are hampered by the fact that are trying to reach out to all the parents, many of whom require translation, and they do an admirable job of accommodating those needs. But I often felt (as a new parent unfamiliar with both this area and school) that I wasn't hearing enough about activities or functions and didn't find it as easy to be involved as I would have liked.

This school is fabulous! For a small public school it is great! They are attentive to the children's needs and are keeping them prepared for challenges to come, There is so much involvement with the kids! They are constantly learning and having fun in and out of the classroom. I am so impressed with the organization of afterschool activities

Powers Ferry is a small school with many challenges that educators work hard to overcome. The staff is relentless in pushing children to meet high standards, and cares deeply about the success and happiness of each and every child. The teachers take on new challenges with a positive, can-do attitude. They need to be recognized for the tremendously hard work they do everyday. Don't let the test scores and aging building deceive you into thinking this is a sub-par school---the best teaching and learning strategies take place in the classrooms!

Powers Ferry is great! I moved from out of town and had some people say some cosmetic things about Powers Ferry, so I checked some other schools out first. The welcome and love my child and I received there was uncomparible. The faculty and staff are amazing. There is always something going on and the PARENTS ARE ACTUALLY INVOVLED!. We have been there six months and the only complaint I had was there were no consequences for my child. Dont get me wrong, my child is the furthest thing away from a behavior problem, but she has to have consequences for not doing her work. The teacher is easy to talk too and has assured me that she will stay on top of it, but she just loves her so much! Any teacher that can hug ALL of their students and truly love and care for them deserves a pat on the back!
