I am currently not having a good experience with the staff at this school concerning my child. Even after speaking to the principal.

My daughter attended Hollydale for 4th grade and I have to say that we have had a wonderful experience. The teachers are great and supportive of the students' success and my daughter has thrived there. We came to Hollydale from a different state and the counselors and gifted teacher was very good at expediting her paperwork so she can be properly placed. With recommendations from her teachers, my daughter has participated in the reading club, the reading bowl, and the spelling bee and has received a lot of support from the teachers and the staff. The only criticism that I have is that the gifted program is not well funded and there is only one gifted teacher for the whole school. consequently, students only receive one day of service per week. The gifted teacher Mrs Jones is nothing short of awesome and uses various tools, strategies and innovative interventions to reach her students. We look forward to 5th grade and my daughter is pretty excited. Any parent who feels their child is not receiving adequate help, should meet with the principal and assistant principal to address their concerns.

Hollydale is a great little neighborhood school. The teachers are great and many of them have been teaching at the school for over 10 years.

I'm on here because my son is begging me to send him back to a charter school like the one we moved from. He said the teacher is taking away recess tomorrow because he was trying to be nice and laughed at a friends joke.....when the whole class was talking and she was busy. I asked him if he was loud and he said no she just was mad. He said the students are unfriendly and the teacher is grouchy. He is an A and B student so I do believe my son, he tries very hard for me and is well behaved. I have heard the teachers here state that the children are very much alone at home and they think it is sad. There seems to be some classes were student behavior is an issue. I would have to say though that we are in the minority and my children are not bullied or made fun of. They do seem to enjoy school at times even though there are some awkward days for them. There have been two minor incidents and the teachers handled them professionally. This is not a bad school but if your children come from a school where the teachers were able to teach throughout the day, then you might find the culturally diverse setting a little unorganized.

"The only thing I can agree with from the posting from May 25, 2011 is that the Kindergarten at Hollydale is very good after that it goes down hill. My child was at Hollydale from K thru 5th grade and the only good education received was in K w/ Mrs Palen & Mrs Cagle. 1st grade started the nightmare, my child was moved to a new teacher whose class consisted of 95% of children who could not speak any English. Which resulted in the other English speaking children being left behind. 2nd grade the teacher recommend getting my child tested for ADHD(against the law) and then the ""Academic Team"" (another useless group at Hollydale) suggested retaining my child. 3rd grade the teacher was useless communicated once the entire year only to say my child was about to fail. 4th grade had a wonderful teacher that actually took the time to teach my child & of course she was let go at the end of the year. 5th grade, the teacher harassed, bullied & tormented my child to no end to where my child left Hollydale hating school. If you love your child, think hard before sending them to Hollydale because the quailty of education here will result in your child being left behind."
