I'll put it this way: I've enjoyed working with students here, because, despite what the scores say, students HAVE made a lot of growth over the past several years. When I first started here, students were 2-3 years behind grade level in reading, mostly because, one, the Primary school (Kindergarten and 1st grade school, under different leaders than the Intermediate school) , contributes NOTHING to their students (most students that come in the EIP program do NOT come with a folder, improperly assessing students, lying about their reading levels and reports cards in writing, etc.), and two, the PREVIOUS administration passed along the students that desperately needed to be retained. Thankfully, we HAVE closed that gap in reading, so writing is now a focus to improve test scores. There has also been a pretty significant improvement in behavior. To me, the problem has been leadership. Although I do think they do their best to build relationships with teachers and improve student performance (which they have), they also make it downright stressful to come to work each day (with the exception of MR. B). All FIVE of the assistant principals basically run the school, and it feels like we're teaching more towards their evaluations than to the students. Evaluations basically nitpick on things that have nothing to do with our teaching or classroom management, and it feels like they're not looking at their growth performance, data, etc. On average this year, my students grew OVER 300 points on their reading and math assessments, and they grew 6-9 reading levels, but I feel none of that was really looked at. My END OF YEAR evaluations looked more like they didn't like the way my classroom was set up, points deducted when they didn't like what another administrator or principal told us what to do, etc. All of the administrators' hearts are in the correct place, and that's why there's been noticeable change. To keep the high turnover rate in teachers from increasing, and to create a less stressful environment for teachers, there needs to be change with this, and all of them need to get on the same page. We also need more support with our students that have major behavior problems and disorders. It's feels like they're never available when there's an issue with this.

The teachers at Riverside Intermediate care alot about the students and want the best for them! Unfortunately teachers at Riverside only have planning time twice a week, teachers have to eat lunch with their class, and the turnover rate for teachers is EXTREMELY HIGH.

My daughter walked into a basketball goal at school & chipped her tooth as a result. I was misinformed at first saying that only her lip was busted. I was told by the staff that there was no safety issue at the school & they aren't responsible for what happened to my child under their care. I now have to find out how I can save $1300 to get her tooth fixed.
