Mcconnell Middle School Ratings & Reviews

I needed counseling for depression, suicidal thoughts and lack of self confidence after the events at this school. Students are mostly treated like garbage but there ARE some gold hearted teachers. The school can be overwhelming for someone that is a slow worker, bullied or depressed. Don't let other people suffer like I did.

My son transfered to MMS last year from out of state. I must say I am most pleased with the communication and programs offered at the school. The dedication of the teachers and willingness to come in early or stay late to aid the students is to be commended. My son fell behind as a result of his ADHD, and the teachers and staff rallied to aid him. The communication sfforded me as a concerned parent is to be commended! I am very appreciative for the prompt responses to my emails, coupled with theirs and phone calls to commend my son's work ethics and improvement. The PTA is very active in the school as well. So grateful to being able to secure a school that truly cares for the students.

I love McConnell Middle School! I previously transferred from another school that was no where on McConnell's academic level! When I was enrolled I was put into probe, because probe classes were what I've been in throughout school. The problem is, at the school I came from, there was no probe! So those probe classes, they really gave me a challenge at first. But thanks to the amazing McConnell teachers, staff, and even peers I caught on quickly. If you were thinking on enrolling a child you hands down should, my mom made a very good decision for me and I can't thank her enough for sending me to McConnell Middle School.

Teachers seem outstanding & leadership is responsive. Management of my sons ADHD is OK, however I think questions of how his IEP is being implemented or advocating my sons legal rights to will be met with a fight. Separately, McConnell is quick to pull out a handbook and reference rules that are mainly written not to protect Gwinnett County Schools, so READ YOUR HANDBOOK . Many of the rules leave a lot of room for interpretation by the school. I came to observe my daughter in her classroom after emailing the teacher and leadership beforehand and checking into the main office as a visitor. I was treated like an intruder leading a terrorist attack against the school. The open door policy is not open door. Many of the rules (county wide) are extreme and unbalanced. (Ex.- My daughter is expected to keep her bookbag and trumpet on her lap for bus safety. She comes home indentations on her laps from the weight. The response was "We are not responsible for transporting her trumpet although she needs it for school." Huh? No recess and lunch is super short. This school and county "fits the bill" but research some private schools if you are looking for a more balanced approach.
