I should have listened to another mom when she said that this school is totally insane. I didn't last a month and I put our child right back in public school. It's like my kid was being punished by the county for learning online! The workload was way too much as compared to brick and mortar. The people touting this school as WONDERFUL are moms that are hunched over their kid's shoulders every day typing their papers which was not me. There's a way to encourage independent learning but this is definitely not it.

I have been attending Gwinnett Online Campus for five years now. GOC is a WONDERFUL school! All of the teachers at GOC are so nice, generous, and helpful! I have really bonded well with the teachers. Everyone at GOC is like a family to me, and it is like a home to me now. GOC, despite being an online school, has many great opportunities for students to interact with each other, and it is a lot of fun to go to the campus or on Rich Experiences and meet and see people from GOC. The courses and lessons at GOC are very easy to navigate, and you learn a lot. The teachers are very quick to respond if something is wrong, and they will help you with anything and everything. Also, there are many ways to get involved at GOC, and many new ways are being developed with the Student Leadership Team. I also absolutely love the flexibility that GOC provides. GOC is just overall and all around an amazing school, and I highly recommend that people attend GOC. It's fantastic and simply couldn't be better!

I'm a dad of a 11 year old boy. I've got an aerospace undergrad and an MBA from D1 schools. Why was my son required to complete a science fair project with five trials, an abstract, background research, analysis complete with data charts and a bibliography OR a 10-12 page independent research paper in addition to his course work for standard 6th grade science? Oh, I remember. It's because we do so many of those in college. This assignment, along with many others, is not developmentally appropriate nor is it representative of elementary or middle school work and so guess who does the majority of it? PARENTS! From what I understand, GOC is new at the online thing for the lower grades and it shows. My son won't return next semester.

- a student As a former GOC student, I have to say this was the best option for me to complete my last 2 years of high school. I took 3 AP classes each year, and the Desire2Learn platform was incredibly easy to get used to. I do have to say that if you are a student or have a child who is not very diciplined with their schoolwork and can get easily distracted, this is not the school for you. It takes a lot of diligence to be able to stay on task. But if you want an option to comfortably do your work from home, this is a fantastic school. The online option boosted my GPA just in time for college. The teachers are caring and will help you through the whole way if you are willing to cooperate. I wish I did all my 13 years of public school with GOC.

After five successful years at public ES in a good Gwinnett cluster, we enrolled two of our children at GOC for two MS years. Both were straight A students, they are not behavior problems and are traditional learners. The work load was beyond overwhelming and the technology is far from perfected. The teachers are some of the county's finest but there is no way a student stays current or navigates the platforms successfully without the dedicated help of an EDUCATED and TECHNICALLY COMFORTABLE parent EVERY SINGLE day and a monster data plan.We denied accelerated courses because our kids were already online 8-10 hours per day. Our kids ate at their laptops and worked most weekends at some point to compensate for their rec sports schedules and one music lesson during the week. We even found ourselves completing assignments for our kids because there physically wasn't enough hours in the week for a 12 y/o to type himself or simply complete all that was required. Add to this, the connections courses are too demanding because they are repurposed HS courses for the lower grades. We enrolled at GOC to provide our kids more time to be kids and circumvent MS hours, but what we got were unbalanced, bug-eyed little people suffering gadget glow and we stayed the course as long as we could giving it time to right itself. But, those that stay enrolled here are those with circumstances much like a student enduring a health issue or a child that stuggles socially yet has the support of a highly engaged family. Or, the school is a good fit for computer versed C and D students that can't meet due dates because GOC works tirelessly to retain them. Or, this school is for those families that do nothing but school where school is their sport or instrument or only activity and kids can test out and up. This school is NOT best suited for average, active parents wanting more time to raise a well-rounded child, and we can't be alone as student turnover both years was incredibly high. Ultimately, we disenrolled them both and took a different route thru MS with the goal of public high school graduation.
