Dunwoody Elementary School Ratings & Reviews

I have 3 kids, all who attend(ed) DES. The teachers are fabulous, there is a very strong parental involvement, the principal Ms. Sanders is on top of everything. The school itself is new and modern, and the playground is great. In total, I will be there for a total of 13 years! Very pleased with the quality of education.

My husband and I were so excited for our child to join the Dunwoody family; however quickly found out that African American children and not treated the same as their counterparts. During registration, there was one other African American family and myself, in which their registration was denied. I called daily to ensure my child's acceptance and was never answer. My daughter eventually started school and soon after, our address was asked to be verified by the secretary/registrar. She went as far as to contact the names and number of our contact log for verification, which is totally unethical. The secretary that registers the students & staff does not support African Americans attending Dunwoody and they will do everything in their power to make your life a living nightmare. Eventually, the primary assistant principal removed my innocent daughter from her learning environment and refused to allow her to return to class. The primary assistant principal contacted me to pick up my child because they had withdrew her, needles to say I was appaled. Dunwoody Elementary is a great school, but their treatment of African Americans are extremely hurtful and shameful.

This is a great school! My son started in Kindergarten last year and made a lot of progress in all subject areas. Teacher was wonderful. I could tell she really cared about the kids, had interesting homework assignments and provided great structure in the class. My younger son will start this August, so I'm eager to see how he does.

We've been having a very positive experience. Great teachers, classroom atmosphere, facilities, bus drivers, etc. The parents are involved and participate. The kids are constantly exposed to the STEM program. My kids like to go to school and socialize with their friends. I do not feel that my kids are only being taught to take standardized tests. They are growing academically - but be aware, we as parents do put extra energy at home, volunteer and donate. There is no shortcut for a good education - it needs to be a combination of school and home support.
