I would rate my experience at this school as an A+. Thank you guys, and keep up the good work. One thing I can ask is that we incorporate a Black History Program that is known to the parents and students. I think all races should be aware of the Black Heritage and History.

"The focus seems to shift from what students need to what the administration wants. Students are deprived from basic needs such as outdoor time sometimes or even human interaction during meal time. The school feels stressful to me as an adult during my few volunteering hours I spent there. I can only imagine that it is 10 times worse for the young minds who crave that creative environment for them to thrive. The poor yet very qualified teachers could not escape from that same fate, and you can tell that they are sitting and hoping for someone to come and save them before the new system suck the life and joy out of them. Can't help but be the good cop with my child at all time since the bad cop ""school"" is taking the role to the next level."

We've been at this school for several years and we hate it more every year. But when the school district is #92 of school districts in the state, you don't have many other good choices. This school is run as a dictatorship. Parents are treated like they're students. We have zero opportunities for input in anything other than the PTO. There's absolutely no attempt to engage with parents in a meaningful way so that we can work together to create a school a more positive school environment and relationship. Other than support staff, there's virtually zero diversity among the school administration and faculty. If you think it's important that your kids see adults that look like them and understand their culture and history in the classroom, you'll be sorely disappointed at the Theme School. The principal is on her second year at the school and I've come to believe that she's there to thin the herd, so to speak. The policies that she's chosen to make stricter are policies that studies show negatively impact the learning outcomes of primarily working-class and minority students. She's nowhere near as concerned about ensuring the academic needs of students are being met as she is about ensuring 100% compliance of rules that have very little impact on student learning. The attitude here is that if your child is not doing well academically, it's the child's fault. The problem is never internal. Always external. This is the way the school district operates as a whole so it's not really a surprise the Theme School follows suit. Except the Theme School has the ability to dismiss your child for poor performance. So, why should they care if a child is failing? If you contact the principal about an issue, she'll call you back saying she needs to follow up with her staff and then you only ever hear from the staff. She doesn't take personal ownership when issues are presented to her. And then, will have the nerve to send home a letter that says issues shouldn't go beyond the school. As you can see from all the reviewers that attack people who leave negative reviews, there is enormous pressure in this cliquish Theme School environment to comply and conform. If you decide to send your kids to this school, get used to stifling your voice and opinions. There are far too many people actively working to maintain the status quo and the power structure at this school.

We have attended NCTS for two years and love it. My child has been lucky with two great teachers who really appreciate her and push her to be the best student she can be. I am so involved in her learning and always able to come into her class, whether it's reading or helping out with a project. Being able to watch her grow in such a great environment is a great feeling as a parent!
