Our son has attended The Piedmont School for 3 years. The school is a startup and behaves like the average startup with immature processes and procedures. Teacher turnover is high. School leadership is unreasonably inflexible. We had very high hopes and are definitely moving on at the end of the school year.

Our 11 year old son who is moderately impacted by his autism just finished his first year at the Piedmont School and will be returning next year. We have had a year of public school (Dekalb County) and all other years were completed at private schools in the Atlanta area which specialized in educating children on the spectrum. For us, Piedmont came at an excellent time. There isn't a single school that is best, or perfect for all children on the spectrum. But we have found that Piedmont has been exceptional for where we are. The level of expertise of the staff, and particularly the director of the school, is exceptional. There is a focus and constant effort on preparing our son for adulthood. In addition to the very good academics, there is a very direct and practical effort to teach real life skills. Our son is bright, but many social interactions do not come naturally for him. At Piedmont they work on teaching reading, math, social studies, etc... as well as those all important social skills.Communication from the school comes in the form of weekly emailed summaries and quarterly conferences with the teachers and school director. Our son had a few behavioral challenges this year, which were quickly and methodically addressed with additional conferences. Sometimes it's hardest to take in information about your child's challenges. But the staff at Piedmont were direct and professional with us. And, most importantly, focused on dealing with and addressing our son's challenges. My wife and I are profoundly grateful for the experience and how well we were treated.Overall, my wife and I could not be more pleased with the experience we have had at the Piedmont School.

The Piedmont School of Atlanta is a safe haven - a true refuge for children who are highly intelligent but may lack social adaptability and skill. The instructors of the school are stellar - they are highly motivated and trained individuals who have expansive and diverse backgrounds in dealing with children with learning and social differences. Dr. Catherine Trapani, the Executive Director of the school, is a true visionary who is an expert in the field of autism. She has developed a comprehensive curriculum that not only incorporates the Georgia state standards, but is undergirded with social components that are critical for any child. While Dr. Trapani recognizes that our children may have challenges, she strongly encourages student and parents to capitalize on strengths and not accept the challenges as limitations. Over the course of the year that my child has attended the school, I have watched exponential growth in his emotional intelligence. Additionally, because my child has excelled academically, his self-esteem, which was negatively impacted in previous years, has also improved. My son is confident that he can achieve his goals and dreams. The Piedmont School represents community and family--it represents hope for those who want the best education and teaching environment for their children. I am glad to to be a part of the Piedmont School of Atlanta family!
