High teacher turnover, poor administration, virtually no teacher support, lack of orientation for new teachers, poor communication from administration, and a universal lack of discipline. Prospective teachers and parents of prospective students alike should visit the school, attend various classes, and meet the admin/teachers before deciding to work at or enroll their children in this school.

Our family is going into its 4th years with MIS, and our thoughts are mixed. It's great for some kids, but not for most. There is a high rate of teacher turnover, and as new teachers come in, they are not well supported. The lower grades also have a high percentage of kids who have challenges at other schools (ie - got kicked out). Mixing the challenging kids with unsupported new teachers made for several years of dysfunctional classroom environments for my kid. The administration is not flexible. They have a passive-aggressive approach where they say they will work with you, but they did not. They have their specific vision, and if your kid doesn't fit it, they don't care and won't try to accommodate them. They don't need to, given with the wait lists that they have!Ultimately, for high functioning, gifted learners who a) do not need/want structure, and b) need no more than just recreational athletic or artistic extra curricular options; this is a great school.

Excellent! My son has grown in the 6th grade & now the 7th... Maturing in every way positively. Articulation is a great thing...at a 12/13 year age he is able to now express how he feels in general, and excitedly expresses his learning experiences each day. This is not something he was able to do before.

"There are many 5 star reviews of MIS so I felt obligated to give my review so there is at least more balance here. My child went here the first year the school opened when it was still in the old midtown location so I can't speak about the new facility but I found the old one very lacking (pathetic outside play area, low ceilings and tiny classrooms, gym and library). Hopefully the new one is better. Other policies may have changed also since we attended.I really liked Ande, the director, and was very impressed with the curriculum and most of the concepts she used in her education philosophy. I think it is a little unique in the private school and I loved the global teaching style. That's where the good ends. The school touts itself as for ""gifted"" students only which was ridiculous. The kids are average, including my own kid. There are also MANY kids with developmental delays/disabilities such as ADD, ADHD, language disorders and autism. I think these kids are more than capable of performing academically but there were many behavioral issues and MIS was completely clueless as to how to deal with them. There was an autistic boy in my son's class that was constantly disruptive and the school refused to take any steps to handle the situation. I think they really didn't know what to do since they had none of the tools that public schools have for this. As another reviewer stated, I agree the school is VERY cliquish. Many of the kids feed in from Ande's 2 preschools and already know her and are friends with her. These parents and kids are clearly given preferred treatment. We left after one school year but there were 2 kids (in a class of 12) that left at winter break and I know of at least two others that left when we left. But they seemed to have absolutely no problem filling those spots extremely quickly with new students so I think this is a school that is a great fit for a lot of kids (especially kids with developmental issues that can't get into other top tier private schools like Paideia or Woodward) and their parents know they would be miserable in a large public school. Personally I do not think any of these second tier private schools are worth the money. You pay almost as much as a top tier school with much less to show for it. I'd advise visiting the school and sitting in a class before making a decision."

"What a great school for gifted learners! Every day I think, ""This is a school that I wish I could go to!"" The teachers are enthusiastic about teaching, the students are enthusiastic about learning, and the parents are engaged, involved, and amazingly supportive - including ~90%+ annual fund participation. MIS is quickly becoming recognized in the community as a leader in gifted education. To be sure, MIS is not for every gifted student. Students must be self-motivated, willing to be stretched and challenged, and able to work with other students in a respectful way."
