Liberty Magnet School Ratings & Reviews

I have had 4 children go through Liberty Magnet since 2002. It has been a great experience for all of them. My children have had wonderful teachers every single year. Sadly, my youngest just graduated this year from 5th, so it was my last year there. I would highly recommend Liberty Magnet, because of the dedicated teachers and staff. Liberty is truly a great school.

The 2013-2014 school year was terrible in communication unless you had a teacher who was very on top of everything. The PTA and the school are both siting issues with the e-mail servers. I think it goes beyond that...there is more than one way to get information to parents especially if they know there is a problem. The PTA is exclusive to those who question them or do not go along with things. The Facebook page did finally become unlocked about January. This school claims to offer a second language starting in Kindergarten. Really it has is a Spanish class of 20 minutes once a week and also incorporates Spanish into the art class for a maximum of 40 minutes per week. There is no way a student learns to speak fluent Spanish at that rate. Some parents do not feel that learning a second language is important; however, in my research I have found that the earlier a student becomes mufti-lingual the better projection they have for the future. Next, is the sheer lack of clubs for all students. Clubs must be teacher sponsored. Well I guess they are too busy or don't care. The grade slipped to a B and I see no attempts at improvement. What a shame, they could do so much better.

We have been at Liberty for 3 years now. And I have to admit that I agree with many of the unhappy comments from 2011 when my kids started there. However, the principal has changed and we have had the best principal for the last 2 years. In fact, this last year, we have had an amazing administration between the principal and vice principal. It was a dream team. The teachers are amazing. The love the students and want them to be successful. As a parent, it is nice to be involved in my children's school. It is nice to see so many involved parents. It is nice to get to know the families of the kids who go to the school. It is such a good community. I am glad my kids go there and that I did not give up after the first year to go to our zoned school.

Our two children have been attending Liberty for now 3-years. We are very pleased with the teachers, school programs and the participation by parents. We are glad to have our KIDS at Liberty especially when you hear the horror stories about the other surrounding public schools.

I've had the opportunity to send my child to both our zoned regular public school and Liberty. When first accepted to Liberty, I vowed to keep an unbiased opinion of the school, as I listened to too many Liberty parents talk down to us non-Liberty parents. After my child now being at Liberty for 2 years, I can solidly say that I am very pleased with the school. Have had no issues with teachers or administration or anything else. In reading some of the other posts... There are always gonna be folks who complain about schools. (Most times, people typically DON'T write a review unless they have a complaint.) But find me a school --- or anything --- that pleases EVERYone... Not gonna happen. If there were such serious issues with a school, it wouldn't still be open. Parents at my child's former school liked to trash Liberty's name, and vice versa. Happens everywhere. But I have no regrets and would recommend the school to anyone.
