We moved from NJ public school where our son generally performed well but was left behind in many areas of math, testing at 3rd- 5th grade levels when mid 7th grader! The school identified the issue areas and were able to set him up on appropriate classes and support to catch him up in two years to a point where a kid who was traumatized and felt a failure at math is getting As and has confidence and solid ability at grade level. He also has some special needs due to visual impairment and ADHD that I was initially concerned may not be offered comparable support and accommodation that public schools are required, but our son has thrived in the smaller class size, supportive, positive and attentive teachers and they offer similar accommodation for, seating, extra time and testing etc his public school offered but also is able to use his computer at school which has been a great help and wasn't allowed in his public school . They also have an environment that has a good balance of giving the support he needs while still fostering independence. He is in an environment of kids who are generally academicallly driven and have goals to go to college. It is a college prep school and does a great job of guiding students early on to be well positioned to find and get into the college that is the best fit for that student. We are happy with our choice from an academic perspective. He did struggle socially transitioning to this new school mid year in middle school... which would likely be had in any school... but I think harder in a private school where students draw from all over the area and not a neighborhood district where you go to school with neighbors that you would meet in the bus or down the street. He has found some really nice friends since then and is happy socially and is top of his class academically. Another thing I found as a positive is compared to public school where I had to be so much more directly involved in his classes and watching teachers to assure they remember he has some special needs or to intervene for some poor teachers ,our son navigates on his own at the Commminity School and though I regularly check in online and with him to assure his grades are on track I rarely have had to get involved and his school progress run smoothly and with great success on his own with the guidance of his teachers.

CSN has proven to be little more than a giant disappointment. My children has obviously regressed in every way since transferring there. The children are mean-spirited and the administration is focused on fundraising above all else.
