George W. Jenkins Senior High School Ratings & Reviews

We moved to Jenkins from out of state. Our son doesn't just fit in, but he found his crowd and after buckling down had a great JR. and SR. years. Teachers were great and communicated with us well. staff was always friendly and helpful. We love this community and are going to stay in this area for our daughters to attend this great school. After reading reviews of "spoiled rich kids and horrible school" I would just say this has not been our experience. We are normal people with normal jobs. Our children are treated well and the school seems to have things in order. If your into extreme over exaggeration than listen to the 1 star reviews, but if you want a nice school with good teachers and friendly people in Lakeland, GJ is a great choice. I'm sure we could find something to bellyache about, but over all we loved our GJ experience.

My daughter has been at Jenkins since her Freshman year of high school and graduates this year. She has played varsity soccer all four years. I have nothing but great things to say about the school. She has had amazing teachers and coaches and the administration has been wonderful!

My son attends this school taking AP and honors classes, he loves it! Feels like private school education at a public school. Lots of extracurricular activities, safe environment and great principal and asst principals who truly care about the students.

Once heralded as the best school in Lakeland (even affecting the home prices in its district) this school is run down and tired. It's athletic facilities (unless you are a baseball player) are pathetic for a school that has the name George Jenkins on the wall. Despite it being the only source of any real revenue, the football team is treated like some kind of annoyance and the administration is all too eager to pilfer the dollars the team generates into other areas (especially baseball!). Think j am exaggerating? Walk into the football locker room. Then walk into the baseball locker room. Case closed. Meanwhile the football team needs to work to raise funds to cover its needs since it doesn't even get to retain the concession sales!!! How ridiculous is that!!! A very anti-football mindset with the athletic leadership and even worse stewardship with the dollars they refuse to invest back into the very program that creates those dollars. We made a big mistake over the years being a loyal Eagles family. I am amazed Publix allows the name of its founder on this school. It's embarrassing.

Great school with medical, law, sports fitness, engineering, Geico, and culinary Academies. My 3rd child is currently enrolled. My 2 previous children received scholarships to college because of the good education.
