It is true that the past administrator was lousy at her job with a possy of minions that helped her "run" the show. She has now moved on and so have some of her "pets" which has made the school a more productive and caring place to work. Our new principal is caring and is committed to making Edgewood at least a "B" school this year. The staff is committed to helping every student succeed and we are confident that scores this year will exceed those of past years. The new administration is open to new ideas and pushing AR very hard. They have many incentives for the students that motivate them to do well. We were sinking under the previous leadership but I would say to anyone looking to find a good school, you have come to a great place. Our new arts department continues to provide an outlet for students creativity and are supported by the administration to be an integral part of the learning process at our school. We will only go up from here!

Edgewood WAS an "A" school six years ago before the former principal took over the school. It has been sinking faster than the Titanic. Now she has turned it into a "D" school for the 2013/2014 school year and it's been a "C" school for four straight years during 2009/2010 to 2012/2013. If you have an ESOL student, walk away. If you have an ESE student, RUN away as fast as you can! There are no accommodations (remedial help) for ESE students and ESOL students. If your child is an ESOL student, you would be lucky to see the ESOL paraprofessional for 30 minutes a week. There is only one paraprofessional for a TON of kids. If I were you, I would look for a better school where ESOL and ESE students and teachers get some support. No wonder there is such a high turnover of teachers...not to mention the teachers that the former Principal didn't hire who were basically forced out. Edgewood has inclusion classes which means that ESOL and ESE students are mixed in with other students and there are little accommodations. The school may look nice and have a beautiful campus, but do not let that fool you. The school is in a really bad neighborhood as well. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere! AVOID! Run away!

Summer of 2014, we moved here from over 1200mi away, from a Montessori background. Our son is a bright, funny, talented emotionally-challenged child. He is on several medications to control the many behavioral issues he deals with on a daily basis. In July, I went to Bayshore Elem to inquire about their 1st grade, as they were closest to our home. The one lady in the office greeting prospective parents was so incredibly nasty, that I was repulsed at the thought of sending my son there. The 3rd trip to student sign up (on Colonial), I was told about the Arts based curriculum at Edgewood Academy. We were hesitant sending him to Edgewood in light of their disappointing Math and Reading scores, but thought the daily performance interactions would greatly benefit our son. I stopped into the office unannounced late July, to advise them of our special guy, and to "feel the vibe" of the staff and campus. I met with Rene in the office. She convinced me that Edgewood's small enrollment and hometown feel, as well as the welcoming staff and Principal, would be a good fit for our son. We attended "Meet the Teacher" night, and knew immediately that we had made the best decision for our special dude! The first week it was determined by his 1st Grade teacher, Mrs Yeung, that he needed glasses and was unable to read. We were shocked as he had 2 previous years of Montessori education; he had been fooling his teachers by memorizing his lessons. Once that was determined, Mrs Yeung working with Principal Trombetti, devised a creative lesson plan with high expectations. The entire staff worked with our son ensuring he understood his assignments and praised him to success by supporting him, and giving him the tools to study and learn. We all cried together as he had emotional setbacks during the year, but also as his fierce determination earned an A in both Math and Reading during the second semester. We would sit at home shocked that he had learned ALL of the sight words he was given (through 3rd grade), and listen to him confidently reading stories aloud. The staff at Edgewood never let us down; they were there to listen, to help, to hold our hands, to spring into action, and to keep our little guy on the right track to a lifelong love of learning. Now he's so confident! We recommend Edgewood unequivocally to parents of a challenging student; only YOU could do a better job.

Edgewood has come a long way. The scores show it. If there was more parent involvement the students and the school would benefit more
